What’s In My Makeup Bag?

IMG_9841 IMG_9844 IMG_9846 IMG_9847

It has been years since I used a makeup bag on a daily basis. Now that might seem like a crazy statement for a beauty junkie like myself to make, but most of my previous set-ups have been around some kind of vanity that I poured over each morning picking out what bits I wanted to use in a chocolate box-like fashion. At least that’s how I imagined it in my head. In practice I became a bit overwhelmed with it all (edit: I’m reading this back and perhaps I’m being a tad dramatic) and ended up using the same things again and again. This time round I thought I’d try things a bit differently; holding all of my beauty stash in my office (much to Mark’s delight) and just having a dressing table in the bedroom with a few bits on that I can rotate whenever I fancy. Things are much more streamlined, I use new things more often and I don’t end up looking like a deer in the headlights each morning – everyone’s a winner. The slight issue comes with the fact that I haven’t been able to find the furniture that I want in the bedroom, so instead I’m holding what would be out on it in a little makeup bag. Wanna see what’s inside right now? Let’s break it down…

FACE. There are a few things that I’ve mentioned countless times, so I’ll list them off and you can roll your eyes here: Too Faced Hangover Replenishing Face Primer, It Cosmetics Your Skin But Better CC Cream in Light, Urban Decay Naked Skin Weightless Complete Coverage Concealer in Light/Warm, Kevyn Aucoin The Sculpting Powder in Medium and Estee Lauder Perfectionist Foundation in 1W2. As I’ve said previously, the Cover FX Custom Cover Drops in N20 are an interesting one and provide coverage with the teeniest, tiniest amount and for concealer I’ve been craving something creamier than the Urban Decay so flit between that and the Charlotte Tilbury Retoucher in Fair and Estée Lauder Stay-in-Place Doublewear Concealer in 1N Extra Light. For powdering I have been loving the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Palette. I just pop Dim Light on a fluffy brush and apply it all over. It’s a step that might not seem like much but makes the world of difference to your base. For highlight I’m currently loving the BECCA Shimmering Skin Perfector in Moonstone (or Champagne Pop!) and for blush I’m all about the Too Faced Love Flush in I Will Always Love You. Bronzer-wise I’ve finally got round to using the Make Up For Ever Pro Bronze Fusion in 20M and it’s awesome. So sheer and warm and not orangey. Once everything is done I’ve been giving it all a spritz of the Tacha Dewy Skin Mist and if you want glow then HELLO it’s here. I must pop up a full review of this soon.

EYES. Aside from a few obvious choices – the LORAC Unzipped Eyeshadow Palette, By Terry Ombre Blackstar in Brown Perfection, Bobbi Brown Perfectly Defined Long-Wear Brow Pencil in Grey and the NARS Pro-Prime Smudgeproof Eyeshadow – there’s a few new things going on here. I’ve shifted back to my old mascaras for a minute because I realised they were almost dried out so I thought I might as well use the final dregs, namely the Fairydrops Scandal Queen Mascara and the L’Oreal Telescopic Shocking Extensions Waterproof Mascara. Other recent mentions that have made it to the makeup bag are the Estée Lauder Brow Now Stay In Place Brow Gel, the SUQQU Gel Eyeliner Pencil in EX-01 and the Burberry Effortless Kohl Eyeliner in No.07 Antique Gold. I also threw in in No.06 Storm Green because it’s a pretty murky green shade. From CHANEL’s autumn collection I’ve been loving their Stylo Yeux Waterproof Long-Lasting Eyeliner in Erable and the Eyeshadow Palette in Entrelacs. Le sigh – the palette is so pretty. Full of creamy nude mattes and with a shimmery pink at the end – I’ll pop up a look with this ASAP.

LIPS. I’m either in a berry or nude mode at the moment and my two lip liner choices reflect that as we have the Clarins Lipliner Pencil in 02 Nude Beige and the KIKO Intensely Lavish Lip Pencil in 06. I actually really like the KIKO drawn all over the lips on its own, but to pair with the Clarins I use the Joli Rouge Lipstick in 751 Tea Rose. My go-to nude of the moment – Marc Jacobs New Nudes Sheer Lip Gel in Understudy – is of course in there, but what you might not expect to see are lipsticks from the Ciaté x Olivia Palermo collaboration. I’m currently giving Cashmere and Truffle a go and enjoying both. Creamy, flattering and they make me feel like Palermo when I wear them. So chic.
