This secret drawer of cosmetics collectables made an appearance in my recent ‘Makeup Collection’ video and aside from declarations of IKEA and MUJI love, the comments were littered with requests to see the contents in more detail; so as always, your wish is my command. Every now and again I get my hands on something that is quite frankly just too darn pretty to use. It’s ridiculous – it’s makeup for pete’s sake – but we’ve all been there, right? A much-coveted item, usually in some kind of magpie-magnet packaging, with an intricate pattern swirled into the compact in ‘limited edition, so I need it’ supply. The following products all fit into that category for me and therefore reside in the ‘untouchable drawer’. A handful of products that for the most part gather dust but are bloomin’ beautiful and act as my stamp collection if you will…
Let’s begin with Dior. The following three were released when Dior re-launched their counter in Harrods and were only available for purchase in that store in short supply. The Vernis Nail Polishes are pretty; Windsor, a steely grey and Diorling (cutest name ever), which I’ve only ever opened to let my Mum have go with. But, the real star of the show is the My Lady Healthy Glow Complexion Enhancing Palette – serious swoonage. I’m not going to lie, I have no idea what this looks like swatched because I’ve never dared to go near it. I even keep it in its original packaging. Overprotective makeup mum or what?Â
YSL also feature heavily in this drawer. They’re pretty on it when it comes to L.E ‘everyone and their mum wants it’ launches. My favourite piece of all has got to be their Palette Parisian Nite Rue de Babylone Radiant Blush, which I think was part of a recent gift with purchase. Just look at that. A punchy pink blush in gold casing with a sunken heart in the centre – it was an obvious candidate for my collection. The mottled packaging limited edition version of their Touche Eclat Radiant Touch, went straight in here too. I think they change up the outer of this cult classic each year for Christmas if you’re looking to start your own special stash. One of the rarest pieces I own is their Pure Chromatics 4 Wet and Dry Eyeshadows that YSL created as part of a collaboration with Facebook. Social media and makeup. My two loves came together and I’m never letting that one go.
Estée Lauder take up the rest of the space with their Virgo Zodiac Powder Compact – a pressed powder adorned with star-sign scribings that is easily one of the luxest and weightiest items I own – and their Rich, Rich Lipstick in Pinkadelic that was released as part of their Mad Men collection. I’ve kept the latter purely for the fact that I’m Mad Men obsessed (Don Draper – be still my beating heart). The Charlotte Tilbury Bar of Gold has been classed as collectable status for the fact that it’s rather aesthetically pleasing, but the final item that’s housed in here is probably my favourite of all – MAC’s Mineralize Skinfinish in Pink Power from their Wonder-Woman release. Now this isn’t the most sophisticated compact of them all, but it’s the backstory that I love. It was one of those ‘I’ll do anything to get my hands on it’ occurrences. Heck, I would have eaten a banana to land it (I hate bananas). Luckily I managed to get it into my basket online somewhere and when it arrived it was a beautiful, beautiful moment.
