The Summer Beauty Toolkit

IMG_9357

For some strange reason, summer is the time when I get back into my comfort zone beauty-wise. I love revisiting old favourites from the year before, slapping ’em on, feeling nostalgic and praying that this time the fake tan will actually work on my shins for once (why does it never cling onto shins?! Weird). Maybe it’s because in the warmer months you’re just so exposed, so there’s not much space for faux glow errors or perfumes that you’ve never tried before and in the heat make you want to vom. Whatever it is, I quite like my trusty summer toolkit, so today I thought I share the contents (just pretend you didn’t read exactly the same post, this time last year)…

THE TAN. For face – Clarins Liquid Bronze Self Tanner. For body – St Tropez’s Express Tan. No contest. There’s so much conflicting advice when it comes to tanning – use gloves, use a mitt, use your hands, exfoliate before, don’t shower for a day, don’t shower before, do shower before – but I just stick to one. Moisturise your dry bits before application. So I slap on the Kiehl’s Creme de Corps Whipped Body Butter in Soy Milk & Honey on my knees, ankles, elbows and armpits to avoid any suspicious looking orange patches.

THE SCENT. I’ve always dreamt of owning Tom Ford’s EDP in Neroli Portofino. There’s something about it that just conjures up an image of Mark and I road tripping along the Amalfi Coast (in fact if that ever does happen, I’m dosing myself in this stuff) and now it’s finally mine I find myself daydreaming about this scenario often. It’s clean, citrusy and summery in the most grown-up, chicest way possible.

THE HAIR REMOVAL SYSTEM. I’ll admit it. I’m a wimp when it comes to hair removal, which kinda sucks because I have a tonne of it. I should wax or lazer, but instead I stick to my trusty razor to take care of everything. Now by taking care of everything, it does come with its own set of issues, namely ingrown hairs. Bluergh. My solution for those is Tend Skin, which I managed to order off FeelUnique, now Cult Beauty no longer sell it. It’s like aftershave for your bits. I’ll say no more…

THE SPF. Stay tuned because there’s a whooper of post coming tomorrow detailing my favourite facial SPF’s, but here’s a sneak peek – this is one of my favourites – Estee Lauder’s DayWear Advanced Multi-Protection SPF 50. The best compliment you can ever give an SPF is that you don’t even feel like it’s there after application and this one definitely rings true with that statement. There’s no grease left behind and make-up sits just as it would without it, over the top. In terms of body SPF, I forgot to picture it here, but the NaturaBisse C+C Dry Oil Antioxidant Sun Protection SPF30 wins in formula and packaging. It’s so darn slim and compact to slip in your bag, this is definitely coming to L.A with me.

THE HOT NIGHT HELPER. Now this is a new one. I’m generally a good sleeper *touches wood*, but when things start to heat up I tend to boil in bed, get restless and wake up with my PJ’s thrown around the room that I’ve peeled off in my sleep during the night (poor Mark). To aid drifting off I’ve been spraying the Better You Magnesium Oil Goodnight Spray on my wrists and whether it’s a placebo effect or not – who knows? – I do find that it calms me down a bit before bed and I tend to fall asleep quicker on night’s where I’ve remembered to use it. Bizarre.
