The Best Foundation For…

IMG_8670

This is another post that my weekly Facebook page Q&A’s gave me the idea for. Lots of you ask for foundation recommendations and despite only having one face, I’ve tried a rather large number of bases because if there’s one makeup item that I like to road-test – it’s foundation. I’m of the ‘grass is greener’ mentality and always think that there’s something out there that’s a better match, longer lasting, easier to blend and sometimes there is and sometimes there isn’t. My top picks list is forever changing, but right now here’s what I’d recommend for different skin situations and occasions…

The Best Foundation For… A SHEER FINISH – Bourjois Happy Light Foundation. This offering from Bourjois teeters on tinted moisturiser territory because of its sheer finish, but edges into the foundation category because it has a hint more coverage than your typical T.M. It’s dewy and light and leaves things looking nice and glowy. A great everyday option. See it in action here.

The Best Foundation For… A FLAWLESS BASE Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation. Ah common’ you knew this one would be in here, right? Out of all my foundations, this is the one I reach for the most. I apply it with my fingers for a sheerer finish or build it up with a brush on my more ruddier days – whatever way, it just creates a really flawless base. Also the shade 4 is a spot-on match for me. The best of all foundations I’ve tried. See it in action here.

The Best Foundation For… DRY SKINS – YSL Teint Touche Eclat Foundation. My skin tends to be pretty combination with drier patches round my eyes and nose and oiler areas on my chin and cheeks, but when it leans more to the dehydrated side of things this is what I reach for. It’s a light texture, but creamy and is one that I like to apply best with my fingers. If you’re a fan of glow then pump on this and shine away. See it in action here.

The Best Foundation For… OILY SKINS – Make Up For Ever HD Invisible Cover Foundation. This is one of the more matte foundations I own which is why I would pitch it as a good option for oilier skins. It’s not a powdery looking matte mind you – more of a satin one – but the finish makes it pretty long-lasting. When I’m filming and need my base to lock into place, this is what I use. The Best Foundation For… SKINS THAT EAT UP FOUNDATION – Estee Lauder Perfectionist Foundation. My skin just loves to eat up my foundation and if a formula isn’t hardy enough then it’s completely chowed down by lunchtime. This Lauder offering doesn’t have that problem and of all foundations that I use, this is the one that looks the best by the end of the day. The finish is medium and kinda dewy too which is always a good thing in my books. See it in action here.

The Best Foundation For… A GOOD ALL-ROUNDER – L’Oreal True Match Foundation. Take all the good points from the foundations above, bottle them up and there you have this bad boy. It’s not matte, nor dewy, not too covering but just right and comes in a large range of shades. Did I mention that it’s a bit of a bargain too? If you’ve never given it a go or are a beginner when it comes to foundation then this a good place to start. See it in action here.
