Nail Polish For Tanned Mitts

I always find it quite strange how sometimes you can put on a nail polish and instantly it looks awful. Jarring against your natural complexion and just making things look washed out. Essie Sand Tropez does that on me. It looks weird and green, kind of like I’ve dipped my finger in bird poo. Not a great look, I’m sure we can all agree? If there’s one range of nail polish where it’s a guarantee that that won’t happen – it’s the Model’s Own Polish for Tans range. The original line-up of five was released for summer last year, and Beach Bag – a neon peach – instantly became a favourite of mine. It brightens, enhances a tan (if I have one) and is eye-catching in an ‘Ooohhh what have you got on your nails?‘ way.

Well this summer sees the launch of five new colours to the collection and there are two in particular that have caught my eye and are so unique that I’m yet to find dupes in my current collection (a rarity, let me tell you). Say hello to Turquoise Sea and Cocktail Hour. Two of the most ‘in yer face’ shades that I think I’ve ever worn on my nails. Turquoise Sea, as the name would suggest, is a a true turquoise, though I’m not sure I’ve ever been anywhere exotic enough where the sea is actually that colour. There’s a bit of mint in it, but there’s a greeny tone there too and out of the ones that I’ve tried it’s actually the most opaque. I reckon I could have got away with just one layer of the stuff. Amazing. Cocktail Hour did require the two coats (and some patience between painting them both), but the finish is woah. I think that’s the only way I can describe it. It’s like if orange, pink and coral had a bright neon baby polish it would look like this. I kind of can’t stop looking at it. It’s just asking to be painted on my toes all summer long – with repaints of course.

So Model’s Own do it again with their summer drop. I think Cocktail Hour could be this year’s Beach Bag for me. Now I just need a holiday to show off my badass summer-appropriate mani and pedi…
