My Favourite Drugstore Skincare Ranges

IMG_8811

I can put my hands up and admit that when it comes to skincare, more often than not I’m a bit of a high-end gal. That’s not through snobbery but through testing a tonne of formulas and settling on a routine that my skin thanks me for (when it wants to). So maybe it’s my skin complexion the snob here? I jest, I jest. Skincare is an investment and one that I’ll happily walk to the tube stop to save on bus fare for. Whoop for exercise – double win. That’s not to say that there aren’t drugstore skincare ranges that I love too. In fact there’s quite a few that I incorporate in some way, shape, or form myself or recommend to friends and family members, so today I’m giving you the deats on my favourites and what to buy from where…

AVENE. I began using Avene back when I was in University and my skin wasn’t as well behaved as thankfully it is now. I’d recommend their range for those with sensitive complexions that balk at abrasive formulas. At the time my face would go bright red even just from splashing a bit of water over it, so I definitely fell into the ‘easily aggravated’ category and a few items from here really did the trick at cleansing and giving moisture but without making my cheeks look like I’d gone a bit O.T.T with the blusher. Have a look into their Extremely Gentle Cleanser and Rich Skin Recovery Cream which are both items that I’ve loved and used in the past.

LA ROCHE POSAY. I always point my friends in the direction of this brand when they complain of problematic skin that’s blemished and overly oily. In fact one of my best mates went the whole hog with the Effaclar range and a few months later her skin looked seriously awesome (she pinned it down on use of this range in conjunction with the Liz Earle Cleanse & Polish Hot Cloth Cleanser). They also do some great bits for those with redness and dryness and their body care line-up contains some gems too. Personal favourites include the Cicaplast, Effaclar Mat Moisturiser and the Anthelios XL Ultra-Light SPF 50+.

YES TO. This is quite a new range to the UK, though I’d heard the U.S beauty gals go on about this for years, so I was excited to finally get my mitts on it (in Boots FYI). It’s a varied range containing separate lines for different skin types. The Yes To Carrots range is geared towards drier skins, Yes to Cucumbers for the sensitive souls among us… you get the gist. I personally like the two aforementioned ranges as some of the others can be a bit too harsh for my liking, but things I’ve used and loved? The Yes to Cucumbers Soothing Eye Gel (very refreshing, especially on tired mornings), their Yes to Carrots Day Cream and the Yes to Cucumbers Calming Moisturiser.

SUPERFACIALIST BY UNA BRENNAN. If someone asked for one drugstore skincare brand that they need to check out, I’d tell them to head here. Out of all the ones I’ve mentioned, I’ve probably tried the most and loved the most from this brand. It’s no fuss, easy to navigate yourself and seems to always be on promotion (WIN!). I’m probably the biggest fan of their Vitamin C range which is supposed to be the most brightening of the four. I’m on my third bottle of the Vitamin C+ Brighten Skin Renew Cleansing Oil and have enjoyed using their Vitamin C+ Brighten Glow Boost Skin Serum in the past. I really like their Salicylic Acid Anti-Blemish Clay Mask for when my skin isn’t co-operating and recently picked up the Vitamin C+ Brighten Skin Defence Daily Moisturiser, so I’ll let you know what I think with that one. Another thing on my shopping list is the Rose Miracle Makeover Facial Oil. Any more suggestions for my ever-growing Superfacialist collection?
