2014 has really been a year of makeup revelations to me. Eyeshadow almost daily, finally getting the hang of feline flicks and seeing the worth in a really good lip pencil – I know, major life milestones reached over here. But when it comes to the latter I really do think that having a good collection of lip liners that control colour bleeding, act as a long-lasting base for whatever you put on top, define your shape and stand alone as a lip colour, are just a great thing to have. So here are my top five…
Lipstick Queen Silicone Invisible Lip Liner – £18 – from Space NK. If your main aim is to stop lipstick bleeding in its tracks, then this clear, silicone formula liner is the one that you want to pick up. I line outside the edges of my lips and this just contains the colour you apply after to the confines of your pout. The fact it also has a self-sharpening tip gives it an extra bonus point.
MAC Lip Liner in Cherry – £12.50 – from Debenhams. To me, this stands up as a full-on lip product on its own. A double-decker red in a formula that’s waxy enough to be extremely long-lasting (I have to use eye makeup remover to get it off), but malleable enough to actually get it on my lips. One of my favourite reds to use, alone or with something else stuck on top.
L’Oreal Infallible Lip Liner in Always Toasted – £4.35 – from FeelUnique. My favourite nudey-nude liner. It gives off a bit of a Kylie Jenner vibe when I use it all over the lips sans a gloss or colour but actually it’s a good one to pop under something like MAC’s Patisserie to act as a bit of a glue to hold it on that little bit longer.
MAC Lip Liner in Beet – £12.50 – from Debenhams. A recent find, this is one that I particularly love for drawing on all over the lip – line and beyond. It’s a like a mix of a berry red and a purple plum and though I haven’t really got a lipstick that matches it, that’s kind of the whole point. It doesn’t even need one.
KIKO Ace of Diamond Lip Pencil in 27 Refined Burgundy – £5.90 – from KIKO. If I’m wearing a plum then out this comes. The consistency is slightly creamier than the others meaning that you can be a bit more gentle in application though this does mean that it’s not the most long-lasting out of the five. But hey, you win some you lose some.
