How to Get Ready in 15 Minutes

For such an organised person who is deep routed in her Virgo tendencies, I really struggle with time management. Not so much in the business sense, but more the personal side of things. I’m rarely late, but to get there on time I’ve scarified something – breakfast, mascara, eyeliner application, a bra, a shower (grim, I know) – you get the gist. It can usually be contributed to my faffing, a trait that Mark also suffers with (getting us both out of the house on time is a long gone pipe dream – I’m forever crafting ‘running late – will be there in about 30 mins-ish’ messages), due to the automatic play of the next episode of RuPaul’s Drag Race on Netflix or I ended up having a bowl of super hard to masticate muesli that took me 40 minutes to eat, but I’m turning this around. I’ve recently put a time limit on things, stopped the faffing and you know what? I think I can get this whole getting ready malarkey into an easy to spare 15 minute time slot.

Now this is baring in mind that you don’t require a shower, hair wash, manicure or a really long time to eat your cereal of choice so you’ve already got to be semi good-to-go or had a bit of pre-game time. So you still need to set your alarm with a bit of time to spare. However feel free to hit the snooze button…

15 MINUTES TO GO: First stop the bathroom. Skincare comes first, so get all those steps in and while you’re lotioning up your face have a think about what outfit/makeup combo you plan on wearing that day. Brush your teeth while you wait for everything to sink in (and if you haven’t had breakfast yet then lob something in your bag for the road). Stick on deodorant, brush your hair and then it’s time for…

10 MINUTES TO GO: Makeup. Whenever I’m clock-watching due to my impending lateness I’m always surprised by how quickly I get products whacked onto my face in a somewhat visually appeasing way. For me I go for an easy-to-spread base, which more often than not ends up being a light coverage consistency like CHANEL’s Vitalumiere Aqua Foundation. Then I pop a bit of the Clarins Instant Concealer on any redness, blemishes or bags, blending that in with a mahoosive brush like Louise Young’s LY34. For colour I pop a dash of Soap & Glory’s Solarpowder on the cheeks and Burberry’s Sheer Eyeshadow in Pale Barley on the lids. Then I define things with the Anastasia Brow Wiz in Soft Brown and the Fairydrops Scandal Queen Mascara. For my lips I usually toss something in my bag to put on later.

5 MINUTES TO GO: Finally time to turn bed hair into ‘socially appropriate hair’. For me in goes a shot or two of the Oribe Dry Texturising Spray, then I somehow manage to check the bus times on my phone in one hand, while packing the contents of my bag with the other, throwing in any bits I might need for beauty touch-ups during the day. Pop on your clothes that you’ve already planned to wear (the fact that this is a split-second decision for me is exactly the reason why I’m a beauty blogger and not a fashion one), slip on your shoes, leg it out the door and breathe…
