H&M’s New Beauty Range Is All Kinds of Awesome

Lily Pebbles has a very special way of convincing me to do things; whether it’s trying artichoke or staying out way past my bedtime. Case in point: a few weeks ago whilst I was in London I was planning on catching the train in time to have dinner at home, then five minutes later we’re elbowing our way down Oxford Street on a mini beauty shopping trip with the aim of getting sushi later for dinner. You’ve got to watch out for that Lily because two hours later I’m £50 quid down with a belly full of tuna and a bag full of bits from H&M Beauty.

Now Lily has gone a bit H&M beauty mad. She told me it was the mutt’s nuts, pointed me in the direction of her top picks and we both got extremely excited. The packaging! The displays! The formulas! Basically the whole beauty line is brand-spanking new and there’s everything from brushes to body bits, bags to blushers and it’s been executed extremely well. I highly suggest popping into an H&M that stocks it next time you’re passing and in case you need some shopping list inspiration, here’s what I picked up…

H&M Eye Makeup Remover – £3.99. You know what a fussy wotsit I am with my eye makeup removers and though this isn’t as good as the Clarins, it’s easily the best drugstore-priced one I’ve found. It’s cooling on the skin and doesn’t aggregate my eyes at all. Plus the texture is watery which means it feels like more of a micellar solution; so if the oiliness of the the Clarins doesn’t jive well with you then this is where to head.

H&M Colour Essence Eye Cream in Earth Angel – £4.99. Lily pointed me in the direction of these and though I don’t think she has this colour (and unfortunately it’s not one of the ones there are available online), it’s a beaut. The formula is strange because it’s not as wet or as dry as others I own, but because of that it’s pigmented enough that you only need to use a dab, but sheer enough that you can still use your finger without it getting messy.

H&M Colour Essence Eye Pencil in Come in Third and Raw Umber – £3.99. These really, really remind me of the Marc Jacobs Eyeliners because they are so creamy and smooth (which makes them good for lashline work, not waterline) but they when they set, they don’t budge. I went to bed with swatches on the back of my hand and they were there the next morning and my bedsheets were still nice and white. Come in Third is a pretty copper penny kinda shade and Raw Umber is a brown with a hint of shimmer.

H&M Pure Velvet Cream Blusher in Cameo Brown – £6.99. I was looking for a good autumnal cream blush because all my slippy cheek products are more in the coral/pink family and this is exactly what I needed. The formula isn’t necessarily cream-to-powder, nor is it particularly dewy on the skin. It just leaves a stain behind and boy is this pigmented. You don’t need a lot to get a touch of tawny flush to your apples, let me tell you.

H&M Velvet Lip Cream in Le Beau Monde – £6.99. Now this is an interesting one because it’s quite thick in consistency, so you start to think that it’s never going to try down but trust me it does. Just give it 10 minutes or so. After that you’re left with the most opaque pigment and the warm cherry shade is going to be flattering on basically everyone. I snogged the back of my hand teenage-girl style to see if it would come off and literally there wasn’t even a smudge of red on there. Amazing stuff. Warning though: don’t chew your lips like I do because it won’t hang around and the texture starts to ball away. BOO!
