Covent Garden has fast become the location I head to whenever I’m peckish for a new makeup purchase. The cobbled streets and nooks, crannies and corners are filled with flagship stand-alone stores from some of my favourite brands and they’re all within a stones-throw of each other, making it easy to have your own beauty bar crawl without the need to squeeze onto the tube with your shopping bags between stops. It’s basically payday heaven. Whenever I find myself in the area between meetings, I nearly always end up at my next appointment with a new lipstick and an armful of swatches.

Here’s the thing though, you don’t need to squeeze shopping trips between meetings or in your lunch-break anymore because for the month of July Covent Garden will have extended opening hours from Wednesdays through to Saturdays as part of their event – Covent Garden After Hours. As the likes of Charlotte Tilbury, NARS and Urban Decay keep their doors open till 9pm they’ll be brand offers galore and a series of Thursday night events which will make it totally worth getting the late train home. Plus, the trains will be quieter and you’ll need the seat next to you for your bags anyway. It just makes sense.

If it’s a bit of a beauty party that you’re after then it’s each Thursday evening in July that you’ll want to pencil in your diary. There’s a tonne of stuff going on, but I’d recommend heading to Aveda, who’ll be hosting a braid bar in-store, then grabbing a complimentary prosecco and makeup touch-up at Charlotte Tilbury or a 10 minute makeover from NARS (you’ll get a free product with every purchase there too – they’re mixing it up with a different product each week!), if it’s a makeup masterclass you fancy then trot down to KIKO or if you’re feeling spendy for Urban Decay then you’ll get a stash bag with three items in when you spend over £75 there between 5pm and 8pm.

It’s a foodie delight each Thursday evening too as Frenchie, LIMA Floral and Balthazar Boulangerie offer up their first ever street food stalls, plus Portobello Road Gin will be on hand with a pop-up bar and live DJ sets. For all the info check out the Covent Garden After Hours site. BRB – just trying to arrange my diary so I’ll be up in London for the next four Thursdays. Late train back, yeah?
