BECCA Shimmering Skin Perfector Dupe?

Time for a dupe post! Congratulations to the 99% of you who have already guessed what they are due to my oh not so subtle hinting! But yes I do believe that the BECCA Shimmering Skin Perfector has some very similar features to the L’oreal Lumi Magique Pure Light Primer*.  I recieved the L’oreal Primer a few days after I shelled out £33 for the BECCA and thought that I may have a possible dupe on my hands….

If you have a look at the swatches above, the BECCA is on the left and the L’oreal on the right, it’s pretty clear that they both have a similar golden shimmer to them, with the L’oreal being slightly more stark and obvious. And after conducting a half-and-half face test, they both do a similar thing to my makeup – making my skin look more dewy and healthy, again with the L’oreal being slightly more glowy. Neither of them interfere with the longevity of my makeup and work well when applied to the high points on my face under foundation. So far so good right?

Now the main difference that I have found is in he texture of the product. The L’oreal is much more of a runny liquid, whereas the BECCA is more of a moisturising cream, almost like an additional part of your skincare routine. The BECCA contains SPF 25 and vitamins A, B, D and E to aid tissue repair, increase collagen renewal and moisture holding capacity. So to me the BECCA is more of a stand-alone product that you could use all over the face when you’re having a good skin day whereas the L’oreal is a highlighting product to be used to add a dewiness to the rest of your makeup.

All sounds good right. Distinguishing features made clear, L’oreal – makeup, BECCA – skincare. I guess the last point is price, now here is the swiz! The BECCA costs a pretty whopping £33 for 50ml, and the the L’oreal is £9.99 for 20ml. So per 10ml of product the BECCA is £6.60 and the L’oreal is £4.99, not such a huge gulf in price when you at it like that huh?

Overall I’d have to say that I think I will get more use out of the BECCA Shimmering Skin Perfector, I’m a skincare junkie anyway and it gives much more of a subtle glow to the skin than the L’oreal Lumi Magique Pure Light Primer which has a touch more shimmer to it. But that’s not to say the L’oreal doesn’t have it’s uses, if you’re looking for a drugstore liquid highlight then I would say this is it! If you’d like to see my full review on both of these products check out the BECCA one here and my thoughts on the new L’oreal Lumi Magique line here. What do you think? Are you swaying more towards the BECCA or L’oreal?

  • That’s such an interesting point about the price. Both products sound good, but in different ways. Thanks for this :)x

I ordered the Becca skin perfector last night as part of an order to quality for the Cult beauty goody bag – I’m looking forward to trying it with my Becca skin tint, but while I don’t ‘think’ i’d be brave enough to go solo with it at my age, I think it will also be lovely in summer along collar bones and perhaps in summer alone with some concealer and bronzer if I’m having a good skin day.  You can definitely see that it’s a more subtle product than the Loreal in the swatch

I love the way you compared the prices! I always look at quantity as well when I’m deliberating price differences. Lovely review…I would get the BECCA!

I got the L’Oreal one today but I’ve still to try it out. I have used High Beam, Moon Beam etc before but the Becca one really interests me. I think I’m going to try mixing the L’Oreal in with my Jemma Kidd foundation and once that’s used up get the Becca one. What a plan haha 🙂 xx

For me it’s the Becca one. I am happy to shell out cash for an amazing product and I know that I would get more use out of it because it’s more subtle. I am a bit of a Becca addict so its my choice is not surprising!

Also I did my post on my favorite beauty bloggers with you on the top of my list :)  I tried to leave a link for you, but I think I’m linking people wrong, because the comment didn’t post.  Maybe being marked as spam?  It’s on aposhmess dot com and it’s under “blogging inspiration – gems of the internet.”  Anyone know why I am having such problems posting links in comments lately?

Could you post a pic of your half/half face? I’d love to see what it looks like under/over a made up face! xx
