When Your Skincare All Runs Out at the Same Time…

Something very distressing happened last week. Some of my most cherished skincare items perished at exactly the same moment, resulting in a painfully large online order and a few days of a crappy complexion while awaiting its delivery. Got to love sod’s law. In recent months I’ve got my skincare stash down – in fact I must show you soon – there’s the odd change or switch-a-roo here and there, but for the most part it’s constant. My routine is filled with products that agree with my face and make things look more glowy and less haggard than they actually are. It’s a tight operation and when one thing is missing the rest goes to pot, so imagine what happened when four things deposited their final pump/spray/scoop? It wasn’t pretty. I riffled around trying to fill the in-transit gap, but a constellation size of blemishes still decided to rear their heads and it wasn’t until my orders arrived that true peace was restored in my pores.

Let’s work through in application order shall we? Clarin’s Instant Eye Makeup Remover has been in my life for a good year now and I think this is my third bottle of the stuff. Being a daily waterproof mascara wearer I need something pretty badass to remove it and this gets to work without irritating my eyes or the need to tug and pull. It makes eye makeup removal look very Lisa Eldridge-like. It’s so good at removing the bumf that I actually tend to wipe it over my face too, skip the micellar water and move straight on to cleansing. Speaking of which, I made a repurchase of the Oskia Renaissance Cleansing Gel. Having to use alternative cleansers as a stop-gap between bottles of the Oskia I realised why I like it so much and it’s all in the texture. It’s just very light. A gel that transforms into an oil on the skin making it very easy to work in and wash off with the muslin cloth, it cleansing without feeling too rich or heavy. I was one happy chappy when I first got to use this after my week’s break without it.

The next step in my routine is a refreshing spritz, a kinda pseudo-toning step and for the past few months I’ve been dousing myself in Omorovicza’s Queen of Hungary Mist. This was a bit of a ridiculous ‘I’m sure there’s something out there that works in exactly the same way but I’m just too lazy to find it’ purchase, so any dupes are warmly welcomed. There’s just something about the scent and feel of this. The scent is luxe and the feel very fresh. I need to start restricting myself to two spritzes a day.

Finally I picked up the Oskia Renaissance Mask after using up a sample I had of this. Think the REN Glycolactic Radiance Renewal Mask, then times it by 10. This just makes my skin smooooo-ooootthhh (elongated word completely required). The texture just feels less bumpy and blemishes seem much less raging after a go with this. My new favourite mask? We’ll see. I’m sorry Aesop.

  • I started following you on YouTube first and then I discovered your blog. I love reading it – because somehow I can hear you talking through your words, which is so nice! Hahah! Don’t mean to scare you though. (:

  • I finished my second bottle of the Clarins remover too recently, but I had a Nars eye makeup remover in the stash so decided not to repurchase this immediately! Anyways I normally use the Shu Uemura cleansing oil for all kinds of makeup and don’t feel the need to use a separate remover for eyes! In fact using the oil I have seen much less eye lash breakage and more fullness! Just a thought may be I am imagining!

I always get so scared that my cleanser will run out that I buy backups 🙂

  • Oumi

It’s crazy how my skincare products all run out at the same time.. So annoying!! But it also feels really good to have a little shopping moment 🙂

  • Manouk

This happens to me allllll the time! I would love it if you’d do a video on your skincare routine. What I do to take my makeup off at night: tbs cleansing balm, garnier miscellar water, moisturiser & serum. I wonder if I’m doing it right? And what’s the difference between a cleansing balm like the Clinique one and The Body Shop one to the Emma Hardy balm? I’m so confused haha!

I hear you! That’s why I just made an order at space nk. My 2 favs are almost finished: Laura M Body Soufflé in Ambre Vanilla and The overnight facial from SC. Aaaaaand…. I also got the Oskia Renaissance Cleanser to try. I can’t wait for my order to come in…

  • This distressing experience happened to me once, now I have spares in storage!!!

  • This, I’m sure, is about to happen to me… I went through a huge skincare phase about 8 months ago, buying loads of gorgeous things, but they’re all down to the last dregs!

    ellabooxo • beauty & lifestyle

  • That happens to me all the time! It is very annoying as I order a lot of my skincare from the UK and it takes a couple of weeks to get to Australia.

    Laura | Breton & Blush

  • Next time I hit up Space NK I am 100% trying this cleansing gel, it sounds marvellous! Also eager to try Caudalie’s beauty elixir before I contemplate buying Omorovicza’s offering…

  • The Oskia Cleansing Gel is first on my list to try as soon as there’s enough pennies in the bank. I’ve heard such good things about it – I can’t wait! xx
ps. I put up a blog post on Friday all about how I get glowy skin!

  • Love the sound of the Clarins Eye Make Up Remover, must be a dream to take off your eye make up!

  • Mandy Bajwa

Might have to try these products out… x

  • Sevil

I vaguely remember Amelia Liana mentioning a dupe for the queen of hungary mist, maybe check her site?

It’s by orico! Can’t remember the name though… Streetwise?

  • Geena

I’m so intrigued by the cleansing gel! I much prefer gel textures to anything oily so that sounds right up my street.

    • Emma

She did say it transforms into an oil on the skin.

      • Geena

I know, I just meant that I would rather apply it as a gel and have it transform into an oil than apply an oil straight off, such as the body shop camomile oil! xx

  • Emma

I had the same problem haha! Three cleansers, my kiehls moisteriser and shampoo all ran out the same time. Thank goodness for magazine samples 🙂

  • Lesly

As an alternative to the “Queen of Hungary Mist” I would recommend the Caudalié beauty spray. I’ve been using for a month now, and… Wow, just wow. Very fresh, helps me wake up and the smell! Have a nice day Anna!

  • It’s the worst when this happens! But then it feels so great when you can go and buy all of your favoruite products again. Reunited and it feels so good…

  • Jess @myreadingdress

I feel you Anna. That happens to me all the time and it breaks my heart (and my bank). It’s left me feeling so paranoid that I’ve just now amassed backups for everything (and then backups for my backups…)

  • Gillian Pidler

I avoid this by always having back ups of everything I use, it might change everyso often to a different brand but I always have a back up of each type of product, I do this with make up too! My drawer is currently crammed full and I’m on a self imposed spending ban!

  • i love priceline, they have good products and i can pop down by 8:30pm weekdays

  • Lauren B

I’ve never used the Queen of Hungary mist as it’s just way too pricey for me to bear but I can say that I am loving the Boscia Balancing Facial Tonic – so refreshing & moisturizing (and alcohol free!)

  • i always try to keep back ups of things in case this happens, but sometimes stuff just runs out before you know!

  • Nina

Ren Glycolactic radiance renewal Mask sounds interesting.

  • I love the balance Me hydrating mist, it’s really refreshing and has a relaxing, fresh scent. I’ve recently ordered this cleanser and am very excited to try it out as I’ve heard only good things 🙂

Have you ever tried the “Mask of Magnaminty” mask from Lush? It’s an AMAZING mask and so reasonably priced too! My face literally glows the next day =)

  • Zahra Mushtaq

Possibly might have to go and try all the products out now, especially the Clarins eye makeup remover…

  • I definitely need to update my skincare routine, especially after reading this!

  • This is my worst nightmare when they all run out at once! Good post 🙂

  • I hate it when everything runs out at once and for me it’s usually when I’m at my poorest too!LOVE clarins eye make-up remover and I’m desperate to try out some oskia x

  • Emily Cruse

I love the Oskia Renaissance Mask and agree that it is so smoothing and a pleasure to use. I also fell in love with it having received a sample with an order, and it is such a decent sample (in a glass jar no less!) that I still haven’t used it all up!!! I will definitely be repurchasing when it runs out. I think I’d be climbing the walls if too much of my skincare was unavailable to me all at once…

  • I so needed this post! I’ve been searching for a good eye makeup remover so I will be heading to Clarins tonight after work to snag this one!

  • the clarins makeup remover is heavenly!

BLOG SALE | The little things in life

  • You’ve already enabled me into purchasing one too many bottles of the Clarins Instant Eye Make-up Remover and I’ve found a budget-friendlier offering of l’Oreal. Have you tried it cause I know that you’ve been looking for a dupe. The rest are written down on my wish list since the day you’ve mentioned them … Why isn’t it Christmas yet?

Amelia Liana recently did a post about a queen of hungary mist dupe!

  • Sarah Bruton

I love this i have changed my routine to and find my skin is breaking out less. 😀 x

  • Hazel V

I really loved reading this post. I can completely relate! Thank you! I also wanted to put in a small request. I noticed that you and Lily Pebbles both use Oskia. I would love to see a video where the two of you do a brand review (overview of the line and products you both like from it). I am from the U.S. and don’t know much about it but am interested in getting your thoughts.

  • Ever since I started a skincare routine my skin is so soft! Never skipping a day ever again! x

  • I hate it when all my skincare runs out at the same time! The Oskia products sound lovely!

  • These all sound like absolutely amazing products! Right now my favorite skincare item is the Body Shop’s eye makeup remover and I’d be totally lost if it ran out.

  • Sophie Blumenthal

I hate when essentials run out at the same time! Loved these picks, they all sound like gorgeous products 🙂

    Sophie x

  • I did that on purpose a couple weeks ago because I moved across the U.S. and didn’t want to take much with me. Right now, my first solo trip out is going to be Sephora and Ulta because I’m using travel sized bottles of everything!

  • Maggie Marie

I’m about to run out of my essentials all at the same time too – ouch. If I was smart I would start buying a couple now and it wouldn’t seem so painful on my pocketbook 🙂

  • Everyday you make me want to try Oskia products more and more, I think it’s time I take the plunge and buy some. REN products are always great but I haven’t tried that particular mask yet…one more thing to add to my shopping list! Great post (as usual) 🙂

  • Ayka

Trilogy hydrating mist toner is great and it is only 15 pounds

  • Allison

I’ve finally gotten my skincare down to a reasonable size and my skin has been loving it! Looking forward to you sharing your routine 🙂

I rotate between This Works Clean Skin Perfecting Toner (think that’s what it’s called?), Liz Earle Skin Tonic & the Omorovicza. Liz Earle is cheap but very lovely. Loving the few bits of Oskia I’ve tried so far. Renaissance Cleanser is an every other day pick & Renaissance Mask, once a week.

  • Kayleigh

Not sure if anyone else has mentioned this or noticed, but the new ad bar you have at the bottom of the page (advertising Dove at the mo) is really distracting and annoying! Everytime I scroll down jumps down and it feels like the page is jumping! Makes me feel a bit…dizzy?!

  • This is happening to me 🙁 My pockets will not thank me soon..

  • I love the sound of the masks! I’ve been in the market for a new one lately.

  • Emma and Emily

You make me want all the Oskia and Omorovicza products!

  • I just love your wording in your posts!

  • Haha, I actually don’t mind when this happens- a valid excuse to treat myself to some lovely skin care treats 🙂 I recently tried the Renaissance Mask for the first time. It’s fantastic 🙂

  • lauren

really want to try the renewal mask great blog post:)

  • LeeBette

Just ordered both the Oskia Renaissance Cleansing Gel and Renaissance Mask from Cult Beauty (they ship to the U.S.A. for free)!!! Thanks for your reviews Anna; I’m super excited to give them a try!

    • Lydia

Thank you for sharing this. I was having a hard time finding it in the USA.

  • luckykitty

hi anna- amelia did a post on her blog where she says the orico london streetwise coco spritz is a dupe for the queen of hungary mist. one to try perhaps?

  • Would love to try these products sometime! 🙂

  • Eilis Rooney

I would love to try these products some time! I’ve tried something similar in product to the Queen of Hungary Mist and it is by Elemis. I think it’s called something like the ginseng tonic spray but I’m not sure.

  • I want to buy Oskia product, but I can’t find it in HK 🙁

  • I need to pick up that Clarins eye makeup remover, the one I have now is just not cutting it.

  • Lydia

Any other cleanser recommendations for those of us unable to purchase the Oskia Renaissance Cleansing Gel? It hasn’t made it over to the USA 🙁
