True Blue

I seem to be channeling my inner colour chameleon exclusively on my nails at the moment. From raving about reds to going mad for mints, I’m currently stuck on four shades of blue. It may seem like a jarring choice for such a lover of nude hues like myself, but my feelings for the blue stuff began last year and I quite like the colour contrast of it up against my usual everyday black (über boring) uniform. An unexpected nod of something a little different on the nails plus I reckon it’s pretty perfect for anytime of year; speed reviews of my top four true blues to follow:

Topshop Nails in Varsity – the navy-est of the bunch and one that looks a lot darker when lacquered on than it does in the bottle. I’m not complaining though; it lasts well, smears on without a smudge and I’m happy for this to be the debut addition to my Tophop nail collection – hey sis, looks like I won’t have to be ‘borrowing’ your Topshop polishes anymore.

Essie Nail Lacquer in Bikini So Teeny – the cutest named polish of them all. Now this stands out against the royal blue trio with its bluey/lilac hybrid, making it a lone ranger in my stash. But I lurve it. Especially for summer. Two coats does the trick and the slight shimmer that flecks through the colour makes it a shade that causes you to inspect it at least 20 times a day in every kind of light.

Bourjois Ultra Shine So Lacque in Bleu Fabuleux – another mignon name, this shade bridges the gap between my deeper blue and lilac-ish offerings. The application leaves a little to be desired but the brush is just the right size to match up to your cuticle bed and go on with one clean stroke.

Nails Inc Nail Polish in Baker Streetmy favourite. The first blue polish I ever owned, and the one that stole my heart. Not too dark, not too light – just blue (wow, I’m feeling very poetic with my descriptions today) and the one I reach for anytime of the year when I fancy something a little bolder.

Red, green, blue – what’s next? My prediction: the future’s bright, the future’s orange
