Top of the ’13 Class

I’ll be coming at you with a whole bevy of favourites videos over the next few weeks, including a rather mega product-packed ‘2013 Favourites’ two-parter. But to simplify matters I thought today I would share my favourite, favourites from the past year. Five products that have changed the game in their particular arena that have been in constant use since their discovery. There are no surprises here. All products that I’ve raved on about till the cows come home – though at least you know I really have developed deep feelings for them, right? In no particular order we have…

Kevyn Aucoin The Sculpting Powder in Medium – Thanks to my Dad I have in inherited the round football-face gene (he also gave me my hairiness and love for shopping – thanks Dad), so facial definition is somewhat of a novelty to me. Of course, we all know by know that this amazing thing called contouring can help chisel down even the most rotund of faces (a.k.a mine), but it wasn’t until I discovered this product that everything truly slotted into place and these things called cheekbones appeared. Life-changing.

Hourglass Arch Brow Sculpting Pencil in Soft Brunette – Another thing I have my father to thank for is my monobrow (again – cheers Dad) and my rouge and unruly brows are something I’ve always struggled with. Then this double-ended wonder came along and made it all ok. With a spoolie on one end and a waxy coloured formula housed in the other, it’s been defining and holding my bad boys in place all year. Plus the grey-tinged brown shade is spot-on.

NARS Velvet Matte Lip PencilsOh my word. I hold such a special place in my heart for these. Anyone who is bold lip wary needs to give these a go before they write off loud pouts completely. Long-lasting, quick and easy to draw on and in a matte formula, I’ve even been brave enough to wear these in the day. The colours are kick-ass too; it’s a tie between Cruella and Red Square for top spot.

Clarins Instant Eye Makeup Remover – My love for waterproof mascara is stronger than ever thanks to this. Before I struggled pulling and tugging hardy formulas off my lashes each night but with this even the toughest ones I own glide away when this comes into contact with them. Anytime I’ve used waterproof mascara, out this comes. So basically everyday then.

Therapie Detox Himalayan Bath Salts – It’s ok, I’ll spare you the rave on this one for the 35th time. A good sleep guarantee in a tub. Nuff said. I don’t even want to think about how many refills I’ve gone through; I’m not sure I can even count them on one hand. Oh gawd.

Go on – how many of those could you guess? Five out of five? I wouldn’t be surprised. But hey, they’re the best of the bunch and get the VDM-seal of approval and some. True gems in my beauty stash that I doubt I’ll ever be without.
