Things To Add To Your US Beauty Shopping List

Us Brit beauty gals can get a little envious of you lot the other side of the pond sometimes; you know the ‘grass is greener’ and all that. Target, Ulta, CVS, Sephora are all places we visit nightly in our dreams (no just me?). Well here’s where a friend housed left of the Atlantic comes in handy. Enter Sandra, my Canadian beauty BFF and barer of the best set of cheekbones ever bestowed on humankind. We play cosmetic swapsies from time to time and the contents of her last package was so darn good that every single item deserved to be put into the ‘add to your overseas shopping list’ category. Thanks gurl! So here they are. Pen and paper at the ready…

Lorac Pro Eyeshadow Palette. 16 colours, eight matte, eight shimmer; housed in a slim, ridiculously chic looking compact – this may just be my favourite eyeshadow palette ever. Ever since it popped through my letterbox I’ve worn it everyday, using the lighter shades as a barely-there wash and the deeper shades when I fancy something a little more ‘hello I’m here’ on the eyes. The shades had me sold anyway, but the buttery, melt into the lids formula just cemented it. I could write a dissertation length ode to why I love this so much. In fact, look out for that tomorrow…

Physicians Formula Shimmer Strips Custom Eye-Enhancing Shadow & Liner Nude Collection. I reckon this is the most compact, yet practical way I’ve ever seen nine shades of eyeshadow clubbed together in one palette. Be prepared for a bit of shimmer here, but in a subtle non-glitterball way. The lighter colours work well thrown on with a fluffy brush, but for the thinner ‘eyeliner’ stripes use a dampened liner brush to really eke out of the pigment.

Marc Jacobs Highliner Gel Crayon in Brown(Out). A chocolate-y brown shade with hint of golden shimmer running through it – this is exactly how I like my eyeliners. Creamy, smooth and with that whole ‘blendable for a few seconds before drying so it does not budge’ property I really like this formula. I’m always hasten to throw around the word ‘waterproof’ when it comes to eyeliners, but I reckon this is as close as it gets.

BITE Beauty Agave Lip Mask. The leave-on lip mask that smells and actually tastes good enough to eat. Trust me I’ve tried. At its foundations it’s a vanilla-scented, kinda thick, super nourishing balm that stays on so well I can apply it at night and still feel it getting to work the following morning. I’ve been throwing it on twice a day, once pre-makeup and once before bed and I have to say my lips are in good condition – gone is their resemblance to a prune.

Wet n Wild MegaLast Lip Colour in Purty Persimmon and Just Peachy. High-pigment, matte formula lipsticks that when I swatched them on the back of my hand took two days to wear off. Seriously. Purty Persimmon is a red hot, tomato-y colour that is right up my street, whereas Just Peachy is a classic peach/pink/nude hybrid that looks even better smooshed over the top of the BITE Beauty product. Yep, smooshed is technical term in my vocabulary.

I really want the lorac pro palette and bite beauty products. I have the physicians formula nude shimmer stripes but I don’t really like it. It creases so bad on me

    Nail Masque

  • Clementine Buttercup

Ooh, just back from the States and so pleased I managed to get the Marc Jacobs Highliner in the colour you mentioned as a points perk. Haven’t tried it yet as the packaging was soooo pretty! Excited after your recommendation though! Unsurprisingly the Lorac Pro palette was out of stock when I visited ULTA. Boo hoo!

  • I’ve been searching all over the internet for a Lorac Pro stockist that will ship to Australia, but I haven’t found one that looks reliable yet.

  • Ha! Try being from Australia! Not only are most products not available to us, but when they are, they’re three times more expensive. It’s ridiculous.

Of course I always get excited when I go overseas so I can stock up on my favourite beauty products (at less than half the price!). I’m pretty sure we’re getting Sephora here soon though, which is crazy cool.

This is such a great article! I’ve added a few of them to my wish list!

    • Just remember… we’re FINALLY getting a Sephora soon!!! (December in Westfield Pitt Street Mall (Sydney)

I can’t wait to stop using shipping services or having airport security ask me why I have so much make up in my carry-on, haha!

  • Anna Blush

What a lovely bundle of products. You’ve done well! x

  • I would love to get my hands on all these! Why can’t even just one Sephora open here in the UK?:(

    Esmé // CloudEsmé

    • OfficialSarah

      Dear Esmé:
You actually have the possibilty of ordering over to the UK. It is just a bit more expensive than in the US but technically you can.
Unfortunately (and this goes out to everyone) the Lorac products are NOT AVAILABLE AT SEPHORA but only at other stores like i.e. Ulta (I am flying over soon and have done my fair amount of research). Same goes for “it” cosmetics for the ones being interested.

      • Thankyou for the reply, just wish there was a physical shop for swatches and browsing aha:)

  • Tell me about it, living on the European mainland is even worse. I consider it a treat to shop in London, beauty shopping in the US is even more dreamy :-).
I’ve been eyeing the Lorac Pro Palette as well, it’s so pretty and sleek.

  • I just got back from vacation in Miami Beach and I FINALLY picked up the Lorac Pro Palette and lemme tell ya, I’m so in love with it! I’ve used it every day the past 2 weeks and it’s so perfect! I always use a shimmery shade on my lid and the mattes in my crease. Divine! And, I’ve been using the Marc Jacobs liquid eye liner (it’s called Marc’er or something like that?) and it’s soooo good! It seriously stays put and since I got it I’ve mastered the winged eye liner look 😉 They don’t sell it in Switzerland so I got my hands on it in Miami. Ahhh life is just so hard without Sephora…. #firstworldproblems

  • Annemie

Got back from the US/Canada yesterday and this post just validated the witch hunt I embarked on in NYC to find me that lorac pro palette! The boyfriend dutyfully tagged along! Found it on our last day, literally with our bags on the way to JFK. Me = one happy bunny!

  • Manouk

Ahhhhh this is so helpful since I’m going to New York in 2 months! I’ve got a long wishlist already but there’s always room for more. Can’t wait for tomorrow’s post, I think I want to get the Lorac palette 🙂

If you are interested in stuff from Physicians Formula you can buy it at They ship all over the world i think. I’m from Norway and the shipping is really inexpensive, so I imagine it’s the same for UK and Australia. You get this personal code when you buy something, so you can give it to friends and family so they get 10% of theire first order, and in return you can get a % of what they order. If anyone is interested in my code it’s IQA455 🙂

  • The Lorac palette sounds amazing – I would love to have my own. Maybe this could be my next palette purchase!

  • cristy

  • it’s funny because those of us in the USA get jealous of cosmetics in england 🙂

  • The Bite Beauty mask is my most favourite beauty product ever. ‘Nuff said!

  • Lauren B

As someone below said… we Americans get jealous of you Brits and all your lovely Charlotte Tilbury/Soap&Glory/Bourjois/etc. I know you have done a small post on this before but could you perhaps do an updated “What to buy if you’re in the UK” post since I may be traveling ‘across the pond” soon? 🙂 xx

  • I have those two Wet n Wild lipsticks and I ADORE Purty Persimmon. It’s such a gorgeous colour that would be great on lots of skin tones. Looking forward to your post on the LORAC Pro Palette! x

  • Kate Martin

I was looking around the net for a good nude palette, think I’ll have to give the Physicians Formula one a go!

  • Madison Moore

I’m surprised you don’t have that physicians formula palette in the UK, we have it in Australia.

  • I love LORAC shadows and wet n wild lipsticks! I have so many and I wouldn’t be surprised if I have the entire collection. Love these posts!

  • I’ve been dying to try the Lorac Pro Palette and the Wet and Wild lipsticks! They both sound like amazing products.

  • The Lorac Pro 2 is just as amazing! Lots of cooler tones and (obviously) great quality.

  • Stephanie

I’d love the Lorac Pro palette!!

  • Great stuff! But I heard that physicians formula palette is not pigmented at all and not that good …

    • Ah, that makes me want to visit the UK that much more! Boots sounds amazing!!!!

  • The Lorac palette is so pretty! x

  • MayZ

When you return to NYC you have to go to the BITE beauty lab and create your own custom lipstick.

  • The LORAC Pro just looks so dreamy….aahhhh; a ticket to NYC soon please? Also the Bite Lip Mask sounds just what I need, I love the Fresh SUgar Advanced Treatment and anything to help nourish is good for me

    • luckykitty

  • So funny because I’m from the US and I’m always wishing I could try the UK beauty products! Definitely a “grass is always greener” situation like you said(: xo

  • You have a very well-rounded list. I like that you mix high end products with drugstore brands. Physicians Formula rocks! :] // ☼

  • What a fun post! As someone based in the US, I’m always lusting after your beauty buys- especially Soap & Glory! They sell a limited range at my Sephora but I would love to try more of the products! I also wish they sold your favorite Max Factor waterproof formula over here but I can’t seem to find the Covergirl equivalent!

  • Great Buys Indeed! put ’em on your list if you don’t own them yet.
