The Weekend Post #59: More Masks

Back in the day, an ode to a stand-alone face mask was a bit of a regular feature for ‘The Weekend Post’. REN’s Glycolatic Radiance Renewal Mask got a post all to itself, as did the Origins Drink-up Intensive and well I went all out in a blaze of masks for my Fave Face Masks Round-up. So the scene is set and today I’m revisiting my old stomping ground; I love nothing more than slathering on a face mask at the weekend (well aside from eating my own bodyweight in yorkshire puddings). It’s a step that I usually forget until Sunday rolls round and that way I can cap my usage to make sure I’m not OD’ing on the stuff. Recently there’s been two new additions to the mix so here’s the need-to-know on each…

First up is REN’s F10 Smooth and Renew Mask*, which is basically a parred-down version of their Glycolatic Radiance Renewal Mask, but for sensitive skins. It applies in the same sticky marmalade-like fashion, exfoliates using fruit extracts and uncovers baby soft skin like its slightly more abrasive predecessor, but without any of the redness that can sometimes occur. I might not suffer with the most sensitive of skins now, but two years back even just a splash of water would set my skin off on a red beacon alert area, so it’s still a concern that sits high on my checklist of concerns. I am pleased to report, no ruddy cheeks and a smooth textured complexion; one that I’ll be reaching for when my skins having an irritable day.

A mask that’s more fitting to a spectrum of skintypes is Antipodes Aura Manuka Honey Mask. Staying true to my word on providing an update after continued use, here it is. This sits somewhere between the sticky texture of the REN masks described above and the more clay-mask stereotype; it dries onto the skin after ten minutes and there’s a detected sigh of ‘ahhh this feels nice‘ when it’s muslined off without any tightness. The feeling of it and its effects remind me most of Aesop’s Parsley Seed Cleansing Mask, however this has a jab more hydration to it, making it a nice choice for drier skinned gals who still fancy a bit of a detoxing mask here and there or oily skins who need a touch of light-handed moisture. A good all-rounder.

I’ll be spending this evening scaring various people with my masked-up face, which always tickles me. Happy Maskday.
