The Weekend Away Wardrobe

IMG_9613

After many weekends here, there and everywhere that come from having families on two opposite corners of the country, I feel like I have got the whole ‘packing for a weekend away’ thing down. Mark and I know what bags will fit what in, how to pack the boot, I know to take minimal makeup because I’ll literally just wear concealer and mascara for the weekend, I even have a little pre-packaged skincare routine that I lob in knowing that it’s all there and all I need to add is my toothbrush. We’re a well oiled machine. The only thing that holds us up is the M25 *silently curses under breath*. Now depending on what’s actually happening that weekend depends on my packing list, but usually it involves a bit of chilling, a nice dinner out, a bit of QT with the family and maybe a walk along the seafront so it calls for some smart-casual clobber. Here’s what I’d take for the aforementioned weekend along with my toiletries, makeup and a hairband (never forget a hairband)…

2 x Tops. One for Saturday, one for Sunday. Easy peasy. I really like this ASOS Denim Shirt as it’s the only non-knitted top in my wardrobe now and makes a bit of a change to my usual black jumpers and this checkered thing I got from Whistles last year because it’s SO fluffy.

1 x Trousers. Black Topshop Leighs. Nuff said. Though I really do need to pick up another pair of black jeans as I wear these basically everyday. Recommendations welcomed!

1 x Dress. Not only are dresses amazing at hiding food babies and therefore great for wearing to dinner, they also look a little dressier than my usual jeans and tops combo and a knitted one is nice and cosy. This Whistles Rib Front Cashmere one (now in the sale – boo!) is the only thing right now that makes me want to get my legs out.

1 x Coat. Man do I love this ASOS Coat. Not only is it very warm and cosy – it’s not black. Hooray! Meaning that it adds a bit of brightness to my outfits and because it’s tan it goes with the rest of my neutral wardrobe.

1 x Bag. I usually go for something quite small, like this Whistles Satchel. A bag that will fit all the essentials in, but will cause me to be a little selective about the whole thing. Good for travelling, taking out to dinner and then crossing over the body if you find yourself on a long walk.

1 x Boots. Something smart, but also comfortable and in a colour that goes with everything (which in my case means black, of course). These Whistles ones fit the bill and look equally good with jeans as they do the dress.

Here’s the cheat. Mark and I always keep a pair of wellies each in the boot of the car. You never know when you’d need a pair of wellies – let me tell you. When wellies are added to the mix you’re ready for any occasion.
