The Two Minute Face

I can’t be the only one who spent the festive season clothed in pyjamas for 80% of the time, wearing something with an elasticated waistband the other 20% and splashing some water on their face each morning in leu of a skincare routine. Was that you too? Seriously though, when did jeans get so uncomfortable to wear? Leggings and Uggs needs to get trendy again ASAP. Over this low maintenance period, along with the ability to stuff four Quality Streets in my mouth at the same time as reading Women’s Health magazine, I also developed a makeup routine that I could whip into action whenever I felt the need to get a little dolled up that took me a grand total of two minutes. If you’re still in that elasticated waistband, leftover Quality Street, pyjama mourning stage like myself, then I thought I’d share as it also doubles up as a quick office/weekend/day at uni face too.

First up is complexion and during the holidays I just couldn’t be bothered with foundation. Too time consuming, too much work and sometimes it just feels too much like makeup, so instead I became a concealer-only wearer. The Urban Decay Naked Skin Concealer is fab for this because it’s light in texture so blends perfectly under eyes, over blemishes – whatever – plus its doe-foot application system means you can swipe it on and just go to town with a brush or your fingers, or my preferred blending tool – the BeautyBlender. Just have your BeautyBlender damp and ready to go or else you double your makeup application time here just having to traipse to the bathroom.

Being a naturally ruddy gal I skip any colour on the cheeks in times like this and head right onto eyes. My brows are bushy and sometimes dangle down into my eyes obscuring my vision so setting them into place with the NYX Brow Mascara is a non-negoiable step. Then for mascara I’ve gone back to an old favourite L’Oreal Telescopic Waterproof Mascara. Yep, you read that right. I’ve had a back-up tube all ready and sealed for a rainy day and the other day I cracked it open. Ahhhh crispy, curled and a little cloggy lashes – just how I like ’em.

Then for lips there are two options. Of course there’s the easy one – the Clarins Instant Light Natural Lip Perfectors in either 5 or 7; both nude and both extremely quick to throw on mirror-less and on-the-go if required. Or there’s the slightly more time-zapping option of the NARS Velvet Matte Lip Pencils. I found myself applying just a bit of Damned over the top of whatever gloss I’ve got on for a bit of colour. The plummy colour also works well dabbed onto cheeks sparingly if you feel like you need a bit of oomph in your apples too.

I feel like this a routine that I’ll be cracking out quite a bit whenever I’m feeling lazy. It’s just a shame that the whole wearing pyjamas 80% of the time thing can’t continue too…
