The Powders for Non-Powder Lovers

IMG_8219

My love/hate relationship with powders is a well documented one. I started off my makeup life loving them. Going through more MAC Mineralise Skinfinish Naturals than I care to count. Then two years ago or so I realised that making my face resemble the texture of an over baked sponge wasn’t really the look I should be aiming for, ditched powders pretty much exclusively and embraced my kinda greasy, kinda ‘hot’ glow. That was all well and good whilst I didn’t mind touching up my makeup on the go from time to time but in all honesty I can never be bothered, so instead ended up wandering around with a complexion that had eaten my foundation for lunch. But I’ve found a compromise. Now I still love my MAC MSFN and with a light hand it does the job but now there are even more undetectable formulas out on the market. The powders for non-powder lovers. Here’s my edit of the best skin-like stay in place base dusters that I’ve found recently…

Bourjois Healthy Balance Compact Powder in 51 – packaging-wise this one wins hands down. Slim, compact and with a handy mirror inside it’s like it was made for travelling makeup bags. What’s housed inside is good too; a pressed powder with a hint of coverage that takes off that greasy shine, but lets the pretty sheen shine through.

CHANEL Vitalumiere Aqua Loose Powder Foundation in B10 & B20 – not necessarily marketed as a powder to be used over foundation, but that’s how I’ve found it best to use. As it’s designed to be worn on its own it packs a serious punch in the coverage department, but the formula is so ridiculously light it feels as though you’re applying a liquid. The powder also packs in a hint of dewiness which keeps things looking like you’re skin, but better

Soap & Glory Kick-Ass Instant Retouch Pressed Powder – this one differs from the other two in that instead of being flesh-toned it gives off a yellow hue. It looks terrifying in the pan but especially on a ruddy complexion like mine it works a bit of magic at neutralising it out, while blending invisibly into the skin. The formula doesn’t leave things appearing too matte, while keeping everything still till the end of the day. See – magic.
