The Organic Edit

Firstly please forgive me for the slightly misleading title of this post for I can’t promise that all products featured in this edition of ‘The Weekend Post’ are of a 100% organic, no nasties, made on an eco-friendly farm, ‘so darn clean you could eat it’ status. My criteria for items that made the cut was that they wouldn’t look out of place in the aisles of Whole Foods or were in fact purchased from the aisles of Whole Foods. That’s about as deep as it gets people. It’s a bit of a grey area so I thought I’d enforce my own tick-list and the following all received that all important tally. The au natural contingent in my stocks are fast becoming quite a prominent group, with a notable presence in all beauty categories so here are the best of the freshly picked bunch.

I’ll start with the good stuff – makeup. I have to admit I’ve been a little slack on the testing front here and have only really given one brand a fair a go; RMS Beauty bring it when it comes to good-stuff filled beauty bits. I spoke about their offering in more detail here, but there are two products that really caught my attention. Sure the ‘Un’ Cover-Up – a multi-tasking foundation/concealer/whatever you want it to be – is nice, though since I’ve upped the nourishment in my skincare routine, it’s a little too moisture-boosting for me these days. It’s the Living Luminizer that managed to secure a full-time position in my makeup bag. A shimmer-free sheen that adds highlight without the glitter. The Lip 2 Cheek in Smile is a good choice too. It blends out to a glowy peachy pink that looks equally beautiful on the cheeks and lips alike (as the same suggests).

Hair-wise I’m becoming quite the fan of Tela and am currently using their Volume Shampoo and Volume Conditioner alongside the usual suspects. Now I did experience this ‘detox’ that they warn of – my hair didn’t feel clean clean post wash for about two weeks – but I persisted, moved on and now things feel super fresh. Also for hair, body, face and anything else I can get my hands on, there’s good ol’ Coconut Oil. I’ve rambled on and on and on about the stuff here, so I’ll save you the ode this time round. Also for body I must give a nod to the Pai Royal Jasmine and May Chang Replenishing Body Oil. Pricey, but oh so luxe – my limbs feel as soft as a baby’s derrière after using this.

Speaking of Pai, if you’re a regular round these parts you’ll know that I’m rather fond of their skincare line-up too; the eye creams, cleansers and moisturisers are all fab. Quick anecdote: I decanted some of their Geranium and Thistle Rebalancing Day Cream for a mate who was suffering with eczema-like rashes on her face and she messaged me just a week later to say that using it had helped clear it up. Ah-mazing stuff. The award for my favourite Pai piece though goes to the Rosehip Bioregenerate Oil, a.k.a) skin juice. Another good range is MV Organics, it’s one of those ‘liked everything I’ve tried’ situations. Their Energizing 9-Oil Skin Tonic Cleanser and Pure Jojoba have both secured full-time bathroom shelf status.

The notoriously fume-filled bottles of lacquer seem like a bizarre bolt-on to this post, but Zoya are a good place to start if you’re looking for a slightly more natural way in. They are 5-Free which means they’re manufactured without the need for Formaldehyde, Formaldeyhye Resin, Toluene, DBP and Camphor. My three favourites from the range are the minted Neely, the bright coral Heidi and the mauve-y grey Caitlin. Their 3-In-1 Nail Polish Remover is good too, though I’m also a fan of the Pritti NYC Soy Nail Polish Remover Wipes. Not only do they smell awesome, they remove polish (though perhaps with a little more elbow grease required than normal) and come in a handy to whip in your bag for cases of chip-caused emergency removal.
