The Best Red Lipsticks That Will Stay Put During Christmas Dinner

IMG_0027

I still don’t have a clue whether I have the right amount of parsnips for Christmas dinner or what time I need to put the Turkey in, but I do know what lip colour I’m going to be wearing. Priorities you know? Photos taken around the festive season are the ones you look back on in years to come. I know this as I still have the photographic evidence of a memorable Christmas, I think I was about 12, when I had conjunctivitis and refused to take my sunglasses off so sat and ate my dinner looking like Mariah Carey. This year’s thing that I refuse to take off will be NARS Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Cruella, because the colour is perfection and I know that as I scoff down on my ninth sausage wrapped in bacon of the day, it ain’t going nowhere. Here are a few others that I won’t budge during the big feast…

Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet in Hot Pepper. A thin textured liquid lipstick, it goes on almost like a watercolour stain. Leave it at just the one coat for a less opaque coat of red or layer it up for a seriously full-on rouge. This is a good option because the colour will look good on everyone. I bet ya.

Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick in Outlaw. Get the industrial strength makeup remover at the ready because this bad boy don’t move anywhere for anyone. Perhaps one of the driest formulas, it makes up for it in longevity and the slightly rounded, doe-foot nib means that application ain’t too messy.

MAC Lip Pencil in Ruby Woo. To be fair any lip liner is going to be your longest wearing option here because these things are as waxy as hell. Even though sometimes you might have a bit of a tough time making it even on the lips, the pigment sticks down like glue. Just make sure you warm it up on the back of your hand before application. And have a makeup wipe handy.

NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream in Morocco. This is a bit of an odd one because even though it’s a liquid lipstick, it feels slightly like a mousse. Though I think that actually helps with the comfort factor as once you’ve applied it and it’s dried down it doesn’t feel like there is anything on your lips. Plus the colour of this one is a beaut; a MAC Morange-y orange-tinged red. Phwoor.
