The Best Concealer For…

When it comes to certain aspects of my beauty routine I can be pretty set in my ways. My mascara is always the same, my brow product, the lipgloss that I reach for – they don’t vary much, but thinking about it, my concealer does. I reckon I have just as many concealers as I do foundations residing in my daily grabs stash (and we all know how much I love a good foundation) and it’s rare that I use the same one day in, day out. I have more of a concealer family that work together to correct and perfect certain beauty boo boo’s that crop up each morning. I’m not sure I’ve ever collated them together in a post like this, so today I thought I’d talk you through what concealer I use for what…

The Best Concealer For… BLEMISHESLaura Mercier Secret Camouflage in SC-3. Nothing compares to this when it comes to covering up a raging red pimple (though the Rimmel Lasting Finish Concealer in 010 Porcelain does come close). It’s thick and waxy and on first inspection doesn’t look like the kind of texture that you want to slap on your face, but warmed up with the fingers and patted and blended onto the offending area it works wonders with its high pigment formula. Just blend. And blend again. And again.

The Best Concealer For… REDNESSEstée Lauder Doublewear Stay-in-Place Concealer in 1N Extra Light. I seem to possess a year round festive Rudolph-like red nose and the accompanying redness around the nostrils which is one of my best features. Not. Though a light coverage foundation takes the edge off, sometimes I fancy something a bit more hefty and that’s where this comes in. It’s a little creamier than the Laura Mercier so doesn’t leave any dryness behind making it easier to use for larger areas, but it’s still as long lasting.

The Best Concealer For… UNDER EYESCHANEL Correcteur Perfection Concealer in 10. Unless I’ve had the world’s longest sleep which on the odd occasion does happen (one Saturday I slept in till 2pm – it was glorious), then most days I need some brightening under the eyes. Right now I’m reaching for this CHANEL one because it packs a decent whack of coverage, but is a light, thin texture that blends well and sets to a brightening, though not necessarily dewy, finish. It just looks natural.

The Best Concealer For… DARK CIRCLESBobbi Brown Creamy Concealer in Sand. When I’m really tired, I need a step up from my usual under eye concealer as things get seriously dark and grey. I still think this is the best one for disguising any of those tones because the slightly peachy hue seems to do a good job of counteracting the grey and the formula is creamy, but if used in thin layers doesn’t crease on me and stays in place all darn day.

The Best Concealer For… USE WITHOUT FOUNDATIONClarins Instant Concealer in 01. If I’m having a good skin day, I’ll just stripe concealer under my eyes and on any redness before blending it out and realising that I’ve basically used this light coverage concealer as a foundation over 80% of my face. This concealer works so well for that because it’s slightly dewy in finish, so never looks dry and there’s enough coverage to brighten under the eyes and sort out any red areas without looking heavy. The Maybelline The Eraser Eye Perfect & Cover Concealer in Light works well for this task too.

  • Great recommendations. I really want to try the Clarins concealer, so I think I will be picking that up once I run out of my current one. It sounds perfect — somedays I can’t be bothered to do the whole foundation thing, but I can’t go without my concealer!

  • Marnie

I had finally made myself happy with the nars creamy concealer. . .but after reading this post I think I need to give all of these a go! Thanks for the recs-you never fail me!

    marnie, currently

  • I went to pick up a Clarins concealer after your recommendation in past posts/videos but it wasn’t available and I ended up getting a the Clinique All About Eyes concealer. It’s so lightweight and pigmented, the lady in the counter said it was very similar to the Clarins one, you should check it out as well. I fin it covers blemishes really good as well.

  • OMG I haven’t tried any of these!

  • Lauren Parker

I love my Laura Mercier silk creme foundation, I must try out that concealer. I’ve been after the eye eraser from maybeline for what seems like forever! It always seems to be out of stock, must be great!

  • Marlène

I found the Chanel to oxidize on me very fast (I never had any problem with their foundation).

  • such a great post, thank you ! i need to try that laura mercier concealer !

  • I’d really like to try the Rimmel concealer, great that the drugstore are starting to bring out thinking pot like ones rather than the normal doe foot applicators 🙂

The IT cosmetics Bye Bye Under Eye Corrector works much better than the Bobbing Brown Corrector on me. The latter creases no matter what whereas the IT cosmetics one stays in place all day on me without powder.

Such a great post and very helpful 🙂

Well, as much as I love Clarins (it’s my favorite Brand) I don’t really like that instant concealer… I might have to give it another try if you like it that much!

  • Okay now I have a long list of concealers to try now – thank god the 3 for 2 offer is still on!

Great blogpost! Certainly very helpful. I definitely want to check out the Clarins concealer. Hopefully they have the right colour for me!

  • Nice posts! Isn’t it crazy we need so many different concealers for different things? I might have to try the BB one for dark circles for the days when I have to get up super early.

  • I’ve been meaning to try the Chanel & Estee Lauder concealers for ages Anna – you’ve just convinced me. I have a mega concealer arsenal too & am forever trying to combine maximum cover with minimum dry/cakeyness. Amazing Concealer is another goodun.

this a great masterpost for concealers!

  • Such a helpful post! I am like you, my concealer collection is as big as my foundation, I mix it around every day! My favourites for dark circles would have to be Benefit Erase Paste and an all round under eye concealer would be Maybelline Eye Eraser, it’s my all time favourite concealer! Although I’ve recently got into Urban Decay Naked concealer- it’s amazing, a great alternative to NARS Creamy Concealer!

  • The Bobbi Brown concealer seems to be the only thing that can combat dark circles!

  • Your posts are always so helpful! There’s definitely a concealer in here for everyone – I think the Chanel is probably the one I need!

  • The Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Concealer is my HG. So incredible and so affordable! x

  • Manouk

You forgot to inlude Nars Creamy Radiant. I love this to highlight the under eye area. It’s a bit heavy though so I don’t apply too much, just enough

  • Maggie

Love Love Love the Clarins instant concealer!

  • luckykitty

really interested in trying the clarins one for under my eyes as i find the nars goes ever so slightly cakey on me (nawt a good look on those eyecreases!) and requires re blending by lunch time- but i have suuuper pale skin so will swatch it first to check its pale enough, great post with some new concealer suggestions, thanks anna!

  • You’ve saved my life with this Anna, I’m a huge concealer junkie and always want to know what’s the best for… I’m definitely going to get the Bobbi Brown one now! It’s been on my list for yonks!

  • That Rimmel concealer has me so intrigued! I’ve wanted to try the LM one for a while but might give the budget one a shot first.

    Rachel |

  • I’ve wanted to try the Bobbi Brown corrector for such a long time! Recently I bit the bullet and picked up the Nars creamy concealer and I’m loving it.

  • I love concealers too! I have horrible under eye circles so maybe I’ll try one of the Bobbi Brown ones!

  • Love concealers! The Bobbi Brown corrector and concealer is used everyday for me. I will be keeping my eyes peeled for that Rimmel concealer! x Jess

  • I have heard so many good things about the Bobbi Brown concealer..i think i need it! x

  • Thanks for posting about use without foundation! I’ve always found it hard to find a concealer that blends well into my skin without it being super noticeable.

  • My skin is defintely the worst when it comes to redness, so I should really give the Estée Lauder Doublewear Concealer a go!

  • I love the LM Secret Camouflage for blemishes. The oil-free formula covers up without slid and slide. And, after the concealer completely blended in, it looks so natural and flawless.

  • Kat Horrocks

Bobbi Brown just knows what she’s doing when it comes to dark circles. Her correctors/concealers are the best! I also really want to try the Rimmel one as it sounds a great alternative to the Laura Mercier!

  • I somehow miss the NARS radiant creamy concealer in this post 😉 Not such a big fan of that?

  • I am pretty consistent with my Concealer at the moment. This is an item I use so often I can actually bring myself to wait until I finished one until I buy another.

  • Ooo! I might try the Estee Lauder one out! 🙂

  • Recently I discovered that Bobbi Brown Skin Foudation in Sand is perfect for my skin and now you said that concealer from the same brand and the same colour is perfect for my biggest problem: dark circles! Definitely going to buy it!!!

  • I do love high end concealers but I find high street ones can be just as good, I love the bourjouis healthy mix concealer (I think) it makes me look so much more awake and is a really nice consistency.

  • Ooh I’ve never tried the Chanel concealer. My dark circles are the bane of my life, so I must give it a go! For the mean time, I’ve found that the Rimmel Wake Me Up Concealer works as a good dupe for the Clarins Instant Concealer. It’s perfect as a cheapy concealer to shove in my bag for touch ups, rather than taking the pricier one out with me and risking losing it! x

Very surprised not to see the Nars creamy concealer in this. So helpful though, I need to purchase the bobbi brown concealer out:)

  • Super helpful roundup, Anna- thanks! My go-to “use without concealer” is Cle de Peau’s- it blends so naturally that it takes the place of base on lazy/good skin days 🙂

  • I recently got my hands on a tube of the Maybelline concealer and at first I didn’t get the hype, but fins it needs some extra hydration before i apply it. However, I find it to “mesh” beautifully with my base of choice 🙂

  • Wow thank you so much for this, guess I have to go shopping now haha
