You know me. I love a basic. A classic white t-shirt is my version of what a rhinestone encrusted stiletto is to some. When you find ‘the one’, you can practically hear the angel chorus start up in the background. A t-shirt, jeans and a semi-statement-shoe is my happy place; comfortable, yet chic and an outfit that can see me through many occasions. Wear it with a slightly higher heel, a slicked back pony and a red lip and you can have yourself a night-out number. Or pair it with a flat sandals, a blazer and an oversized basket bag and you’re ready for brunch.

More and more I’m finding that Topshop* are knocking it out the park when it comes to this classic uniform. Their straight leg denim has been a constant in my wardrobe for over two years now and their recent t-shirt drop has featured some gems which have fast become my favourites, and that’s before we even touch on the shoes. No one does animal print quite like ’em. So buckle up for an edit of the best of the basics that Topshop have to offer and the summer uniform that I’ll be wearing all season long…

I feel like I could write a dissertation-length piece on Topshop denim* and why I love it so much. The Raw Hem Straight Leg* style were my gateway into straight leg jeans and I haven’t looked back since. No seriously, I don’t think I’ve worn skinny jeans for about two years. That style still remains my favourite that they offer; they fit high-rise, have a bit of stretch in them which makes them super comfortable, yet they still keep their shape and have a zip-fly and raw hems. I get the most wear out of this wash*. However, they have just realised a similar style in a sand wash* which I am INTO. A coloured jean for neutral loving lasses, these pair perfectly with everything in my wardrobe and I’ve worn them a load since I got them. A nice twist on a basic, which you lot know that I’m a fan of and the honey stitching is a nice touch and a nod to traditional denim. My top current pick? A pair of white jeans* (gifted), that I’m wearing in this post. I love a white denim in the summer – it just brightens everything up – and these are a great fit, not clinging in any areas and providing a true straight leg, relaxed fit.

Just like I’ve been trying to find the *perfect* foundation for years, I feel like I’ve been on an equally frustrating and unfruitful hunt for the *perfect* t-shirt too. I wanted something that wasn’t too tight on the tops of my arms, baggy but fitting and in a fabric that was light and airy enough to wear all summer long. Enter the cutely named Nibble T-Shirt* (gifted), that ticks all the aforementioned boxes. It comes in a range of neutral hues and the distressed hemlines make it look like a vintage number that you’ve had for years. I’m also a fan of the Boxy Roll T-Shirt* (gifted) too and have it in black, although it’s currently available in seven shades. This one fits in a similar way, but has a pinned-up roll on the sleeve which gives it that whole ‘borrowed from my boyfriend’ vibe. Get one of each style; one black and one white and you’re sorted.

Topshop* do a statement shoe real well. Remember my snakeskin leather boots from this past winter? My leopard print slides from two summers ago? Ok, they also do animal print real well. Case in point: these Raja Natural Strap Mid Sandals* (gifted), that I’m wearing in today’s post. A slim-block heel these are perfect for a grass-only wedding guest outfit and it makes them really easy to walk in. I also love the look of these Rolo Cream Strap Strap Sandals* that are chunky enough to have a moment, but are in a neutral colour so will pair with all your occasion outfits that you have lined up for the summer. If you’re in the market for something flat, then these Forest Yellow Wrap Sandals* might tickle your fancy. I love a wrap strap that you can tie yourself as you can either cross them all the way up your calf, or you can wrap them around your ankle and create a completely different look. Perfect for whether you want to dress up an outfit, or keep it casual.
