The Beauty Bag: November

With Halloween still in the air and the dark nights well and truly here I thought I’d turn to the dark side for this month’s Beauty Bag. Yes I’m a neutral girl at heart, but that doesn’t mean I can’t play dress-up once in a while with the deeper shades in my stash. I stick to the rules when it comes to dark shades; eyes or lips, never both – not for me anyway. Though there are some surprising picks thrown in there, so never say never. So here are the offerings that will be rising to the top of my makeup bag this month…

CHANEL Illusion D’Ombre in Mirifique – who’d have thought that a neutral eyeshadow lover like me could fall in love so hard with a black, glossy lid wash? Well, it’s happened. Ok so it’s not the most everyday-appropriate product, but swept over the eyes with fingertips and blended out the edges, paired with a hefty swipe of eyeliner (see below), it’s smudged-out rock chic glam perfection. Party season makeup sorted.

Bobbi Brown Smokey Eye Kajal in Black Amethyst – when a dark eye comes out, it’s a given that a pencil has to come into play. You know my feelings on eyeliner, but things need to get heavy duty on the lashline to balance the black out. This shade has a hint of violet to it too, so plays along well with my green glare.

By Terry Ombré Blackstar Cream Eyeshadow in Brown Perfection – for days when I’m not feeling as ballsy in the eye department, this is a nice neutral, but still pretty bold, brown. There’s a hint of shimmer to it if you swatch it and squint, but on the whole it’s a matte affair. I’ll be lining my eyes thickly, top and bottom and blending out with my finger Olsen-style.

Hourglass Opaque Rouge in Icon – moving on to lips and a product that I’ve been looking forward to sporting all year. When it comes to lip colour the Opaque Rouges are basically my perfect option – matte, long-lasting, non-budging and able to withstand even the juiciest burger feast; so this colour is a welcome addition to my collection. A vampy berry that sits just on the right side of purple.

Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick in Black Cherryisn’t this colour a cracker? The feature I love about this shade is the same that I like about MAC’s Rebel; it’s ability to go on direct from the bullet for a ‘yeah I’m wearing dark lipstick – and what?’ look or the fact that it applies equally beautifully smudged into the lips with your fingertips for a subtle stain. I’m planning to blot it on with a heavy helping of mascara and the…

MaxFactor Miracle Touch Creamy Blush in Soft Murano – remember my love for the shade Soft Pink? Well I thought it was time to dive into deeper waters colour-wise and give this wine-tinged rouge a go for November. A blendable, easy-to-build blush that’s basically a natural, wind-slapped flush in a tub. No breeze or brush required.

I’ve got the dark side of beauty well and truly covered. Next stop…glitter, glam and heavy dollop of christmas cosmetics.
