The Beauty Bag: December

If you follow me on Twitter, chances are you would have already read my bleating tweets about two brand spanking new categories that have weasled their way onto to the blog this week. First up was ‘The Budget Buy‘ that debuted earlier in the week, but today is the unveiling of ‘The Beauty Bag’ – a seasonal selection of sorts that will be posted on the 1st of each month featuring products that will be dropped into my makeup bag in the proceeding weeks. For this months festive pick how could I resist a subtle nod to all things glittery, shimmery with a punch of sparkle. Answer? I couldn’t…

Let’s get the girlie glitter out of the way. I like to restrict big chunks off the stuff to my eyes only and two products that deliver giant hunks of full-on shimmer are the Bobbi Brown Sparkle Eye Shadows and Illamasqua’s Pure Pigments. I have a feeling that on NYE I’ll be rocking Illamasqua’s Furore all over the lid with a touch of BB’s Black Chocolate* on the lash line and slightly through the crease. The This Works Shimmer Balm*, also delivers a subtle slick of sheen and although I’ve given it a go on the eyes, it works best blended lightly over the cheekbones with your finger, for a touch of subtle winter glow. Another product for eyes as I like to go a little bit bolder in the colder months, is the Urban Decay 24/7 Glide On Eye Pencils* in the shades Empire, Mainline and Demolition – a purple, teal and brown respectively that last forever (hello weepy NYE’s) and add a touch of colour that even I can handle to your makeup. Lips, it’s simple, they gotta be bold. I’ve rambled on about my bold lip faves before (post here), but a sheerer and more everyday alternative to my top picks are the Revlon Lip Butters. I haven’t been too impressed with their shade range before, but it definitely caters to the red market, with Raspberry Pie* being my favourite (pssst, I spotted Estée the other day wearing this!) – oh and you got to have their Nail Enamel in Vixen* to match. With Christmas comes numerous photo opportunities (deep joy) so it’s time to dig out those SPF-free bases. MAC Face + Body is the original photo-friendly foundation – dewy, with buildable coverage, just throw on a dust of powder for an evening out.

So all zipped into my makeup bag and we’re ready to go; roll on December. SPF-free base? Check. Bold lips? Check. A festive thumping of glitter, shimmer and everything in between? Hell yeah!

  • Beth Bradley

I’ve been after a SPF free foundation and wanting to try the Face & Body so I think I’ll give this a go. The urge came from seeing Cheryl Cole’s make-up bag on her documentary and she has the most beautiful make-up of all.

I used to always check your blog and youtube but lately you have been using more items you have received for free more than items you have found yourself! I notice myself hardly checking your blog now πŸ™

  • Kristin

I felt like this post was made entirely to plug any product you’ve recently received for free. I think there was a whopping 2 products mentioned not followed by the ever so subtle asterisk. It’s a shame- I really used to enjoy your blog and videos too. It’s depressing how all my favorite gurus go to the darkside as soon as they get a big enough following to start getting free stuff.

  • Celina

Nice choices! Regardless of whether you purchased the products with your own money or not, I trust that you mention them only because you actually like them and not simply because you were sent them. I’m glad you try them out and let us know what you think of them and how you use them.

  • Amelia

What a great idea for a new category, you’re inspiring me to start organizing my own blog! I can’t wait for holiday parties to begin so that I actually have an excuse to wear eyeshadow that’s far too glittery and lipstick that’s far too bold! x

love this idea as a feature, another interesting read πŸ™‚ xx
