The Beauty Bag: December

Oh hello December, you little beaut of a month. Aren’t you just cracking? A whirlwind of family, friends, food and errrr…. more food, you’re the month I look forward to the most. But it’s not just my belly that I’m thinking about; the seasonally apt makeup for the month has to be one of my favourite selections of the year. Red lips, rosy cheeks, shimmery peepers and bold just about anything; there’s more than a handful of occasions to get makeup planning for: Christmas parties, Boxing Day, New Years Day, NYE and the big day itself – just one of those provides more than enough justification that a beauty bag shakeup is required. So here’s what I’ll be shifting to the top of my makeup pile for the next 31 days.

OK, lets talk face. Festive season means photos. So it’s time to pull out the big guns that keep you looking fresh, flawless and non-moomin-esque when the flash photography comes out. I’ve got a few to pick from in my face base arsenal, but the Bobbi Brown Long-Wear Even Finish Foundation (I have the shade Sand), is a good all-rounder. A subtle looking coverage that stays in place all day with a SPF dose that doesn’t cause flashback and a finish that never looks too shinny. I’d prescribe this for dry and oily gals alike. Speaking of complexions, ’tis the season for no-fuss, non-interferrring blush. You know the kinds of colours that work with whatever eye/lip combo you decide to pull off? My favourite is Burberry’s Light Glow Tangerine Blush No.06; a dusky peach that pairs perfectly with the rest of your slap and I predict will come in very handy to perk things up once the late nights start kicking in.

For eyes it’s time to turn up the drama a few notches. Lashes? Check. Liner? Check. Sparkle? Check. First up lashes and when it comes to the faux flutter it’s all about Shu Uemura’s offering. I reckon I’ll be digging out their Black Focal ones come New Years. For liner I suggest going full whack with L’Oreal’s super massive Super Liner Blackbuster Intense, which easily takes the award for the chunkiest eye liner I own. Perfect for graphic lines or feline flicks, I’ll be using it to add in some extra definition for party season. Charlotte Tilbury’s Luxury Eyeshadow Quad in Dolce Vita brings not only the smoke, but also the sparkle. The four shades all give off some shimmer, but the bronzey shade in particular is packed the stuff. Think Illamasqua’s Pure Pigment in Ore, but in packed form. I’ll be sporting it as a centre-of-the-lid sheen.

Christmas lips may be predictable, but I ain’t gonna fight it. You gotta lurve a red lip. One that I’ll be dusting off is MAC’s Lipstick in Ruby Woo. You must know this one? A blue-toned red it makes your pearly whites look exactly that and the matte formula that doesn’t budge means that it a good candidate for mistletoe smooches and Christmas dinner indulging.

Beauty bits packed – bring on December. Oh and heads up, keep an eye out for the next time the first of the month rolls around as I may just have something a little different up my sleeve…

P.S) The Weekend Post has taken a hiatus today, but have no fear as next week it will be celebrating its 100th Birthday and there’s something very special to mark the occasion. Oh two teasers at the end of post? I am feeling cheeky.
