The £3.99 Nails Inc Porchester Square Dupe

IMG_2888

I know I’ve said it a million and one times before, but if I had to pick an all-time, ‘you can only wear one colour on your nails for the rest of your life’ shade then it would always be Nails Inc Porchester Square. It’s present without being too out there, effortlessly chic, has stood the test of time (well two years of being on top ain’t bad for a lacquer floozy like myself) – it just makes things look polished. The only stumbling block is the price. It won’t set you back as much as a bottle of CHANEL varnish, but the original formula is RRP’ed at £11 and the Gel Effect, £14. Personally I love both; the normal stuff is slightly more opaque but has a difficult to manoeuvre brush, whereas the gel one solves the brush issues with a slightly wider and flatter server, but takes a good coat extra to beef up the colour. I’ve been looking for a dupe for yonks and you know what? I think I’ve found one that mimics it almost spot-on…

…’One of these things is not like the other’ is a ditty that rings true for the picture above. One nail has been layered up with the Nails Inc Gel Effect Polish in Porchester Square and the remaining nine with my newly found dupe. Can you spot the odd one out? Nope didn’t think so.

Look closely at my ring finger on my right hand – that’s the Porchester Square tip (+1 eagle-eyed VDM reader point for you if you did spot it). All the others are layered up with Barry M Hi-Shine Gel Effect Nail Paint in Almond and unless I get real close and shine my iPhone light on it, which exposes the fact that Porchester Square is slightly more lilac in undertone and the other’s more beige, in natural light they look like polish twinsies. Basically as long as you don’t take a mani selfie with flash then it’s all cool. I did find Almond to not apply as smoothly and require a bit of extra work to get things looking streak-free, but hey coming in at £3.99 – over £10 less than the gel texture – I’ll take it…
