One-Coat Reds

This week VDM does nails. Five posts detailing my top mani tips to colour picks serving up at lunchtime each day. First up, I’m talking my passion for single layer reds…

One of my favourite beauty phenomenon to discover are one coat required red nail polishes. Formulas that with a single stroke can transform a bed from bare to chic in five minutes flat. They are a bit of a rarity to find but I’ve got enough in my collection to see me through ‘damn I have to leave the house in a matter of minutes and am not sporting a mani #disaster’ days. I jest. Though if you’re lacking an uno-application rouge in your stash, here are a few of my favourites for ya:

Essie Nail Polish in Aperitif – the original one coat red (as oded to here). Deeper and slightly darker than the rest, it does the job in record speeds. The perfect winter red, this also finds itself on my toe nails from time to time too.

& Other Stories Nail Colour in Scarlet Red – this is one of those formulas were the brush does all the work for you. It’s the perfect shape to get right down into the cuticle and one quick wipe on the edge of the bottle leaves just the right amount of colour behind to get it right in a single coat.

Marc Jacobs Hi-Shine Nail Lacquer in Lola – probably my favourite of the four, this one comes on strong. A straight-up poppy red the glass-like finish means you can even skip a top coat in real time-strapped situations. Blob on, stroke up, step back.

Essie Nail Polish in Fifth Avenue – the most orangey, more summery red of the three. The wide brush deposits just enough colour for a satisfactory pass into this category. A possible favourite if we were to fast forward two seasons time? We’ll have to see.

Same time tomorrow? See you for a nail natter then.
