NYE: The Low-Key Edit

For the final bout of NYE inspiration (I’ve already covered makeover menus for a night-in and a wild-one out), I thought I’d talk through the look I’ll be sporting for a low-key kind of evening this evening. Booze, board games and a bevy of canapés with good friends is what’s on the cards. I can’t wait. So the brief here is a smart casual main with a light dusting of makeup.

THE STYLE: Smart casual – now we’re talking. That dress code is well in my comfort zone so have I got a cracker of an outfit proposal for you. The key here is in simple pieces – a black trouser and black top – but with a twist. Instead of cracking out your jeans, try and faux leather finish. The River Island Faux Leather Trousers are my favourite. And kick the plain black tee to the curb and try the Whistles Alexandra Top with lace shoulder detail. Finish off with the Ash Jalouse Boots in Taupe (the most distance-friendly boot that I own) and a small, smart and perfectly formed clutch – gotta love the Whistles Leather Pouches.

THE MAKEUP: When I fancy something barely-there for base, there’s only one option: CHANEL’s Vitalumiere Aqua Foundation. Polished off with a bit of the Dior Hydra Life B.B Eye Cream and NARS Bronzer in Laguna, that’s enough complexion-wise. Brows be tamed by Hourglass’ Arch Brow Sculpting Pencil and a good option for a slightly shimmery/defining enough wash of colour for the eyes is the Burberry Sheer Eyeshadow in Pale Barley (paired with the MaxFactor False Lash Effect Waterproof Mascara). Then for lips why not keep it super low-mainteance and throw on a balm? Oh why, hello there By Terry Baume de Rose.

All that’s left to say is be safe, have fun and please accept a tonne of New Year well wishes from me to you. Expect something shiny and brand-spanking new on VDM tomorrow. New Year, new features and all that…
