NY Beauty Kit

Greetings from the Big Apple! I’ve arrived safe and well and after my first burger of many, I’m ready to hit NYFW running and stop into a Sephora (or three – recommendations for the best beauty hotspots in the city are welcomed and appreciated). But before things slip into NY-mode on the blog, I thought I’d rewind to 24 hours ago and show you what makeup made it into my case. Now packing wasn’t too painful thanks to my ‘The City Break: Guide to Holiday Beauty Packing’ video *shameless self-plug* and though I stuck to amount of tickboxes on the bath, body and hair categories I may have gone a little O.T.T on the makeup-front…

FACE: Hourglass Veil Mineral Primer (to halt the melting makeup cause it is so darn hot here), Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation in 6 (for fancy foundation occasions), CHANEL Vitalumiére Aqua Foundation in B20 (for not so fancy foundation occasions), Bobbi Brown Creamy Concealer in Sand (dur), Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder in Diffused Light (all-round setter, highlighter, redness calmer-downer), Guerlain Terracotta Light Sheer Bronzing Powder in 03 Brunettes* (for bronzey glow yo), Jouer Cheek and Lip Tint in Honeysuckle (to be called in for blush and nude lip duties).

EYES: NARS Pro-Prime Smudgeproof Eyeshadow Base (see earlier comment about the weather situ), NARS And God Created the Woman Palette (contains every shadow I’ll ever need), L’Oreal Infallible 24hr Eyeshadow in Bronzed Taupe (….except this one), MaxFactor False Lash Effect Waterproof Mascara (curled lashes that won’t smudge, sorted), Hourglass Arch Brow Sculpting Pencil in Soft Brunette (to tame and tease those badboys into shape), Clarins Crayon Kohl in Taupe* (a nice definer and smudger along the lashline).

LIPS: MAC Lipstick in Neon Orange (the most awesome bold, ever), CHANEL Rouge Coco Shine in Evasion (for when I want to crack out a nude lip), Urban Decay Revolution Lipstick in Streak* (possibly the best peachy pink in my current rotation).

So that’s what came over the Atlantic with me, who wants to make a bet on how much extra I’ll bring back? Hopefully they’ll be a bit of haul action on my YouTube channel this Sunday if the hotel Internet isn’t too shabby. Right, I’d better get to work on that then. Sephora – I’m coming for ya.

Everthing looks amazing! Can’t wait for your haul! Khiels do a facial Spf over there which is a factor 30, they sell in instead of the spf50 one that you get over here. It comes in 3 different size bottles and is so much cheaper, i really love it so I thought I’d let you know!

Tips from a New Yorker: You should definitely stop for a burger and fries at Bareburger and take a walk on the High Line (park created atop old raised subway lines) – two of my favorite NYC activities 🙂

  • Joysteib

Great makeup choices! I definitely recommend Sephora & make sure you go to the NARS store on Bleeker Street! I used to live right near there & it’s heaven.

  • How good is the Hourglass powder at calming down redness? I mean, realistically. When you have a red face. If it’s that good, then I’m running to the nearest Space NK.
    Always looking for new options!

Check out The Cosmetics Market on 37th between 5th and Madison. They have lots of great deals!

  • Anya Cross

The best Sephora is in Union Square on 17th St and Park Ave South – it’s huge and has a good amount of variety. A little further up on 20th and Park Ave South is an amazing Duane Reade (drugstore) with tons of great cosmetic brands downstairs. Also, if you want to go extra crazy, visit Ricky’s, there are many throughout the city but near Union Square there’s one on 14th between 5th avenue and Union Sq West. Have fun!!

  • Nina

The Nars palette looks great! Do you prefer it over Naked ones?

  • roshkud

The makeup bag looks so handy! I always find packing makeup to be difficult and hoping that they won’t break, but the bag looks like it solves the problem!

Gorgeous kit full of lovely essentials!

Feel free to enter my MAC Lipstick giveaway!

The Sephora in the meat packing district carries a lot of more distinctive brands. But the 2 shops that I think would be right up your alley are ABC Home & Carpet (off of Union Square) – they have a wonderful selection of natural & organic cosmetics and skincare that you can swatch & play with to your hearts content. And Woodley & Bunny on N 10th in Brooklyn is fabulous… It’s a heavenly shop full of hard to find brands. Lastly if you are interested in scents, CB I Hate Perfume has a shop also in Williamsburg – I dare you to walk out without a purchase! 🙂 both shops are absolutely worth making the trip over the bridge for.

    Have a great time!

Marc Jacobs has opened a store on Bleeker St that sells just his make up range, worth a look!

  • Ariana

I love these type of posts. I want the Paul and Joe makeup bag so badly, but Selfridges seems to be the only store that has them and they want 25 pounds (can’t find the symbol 🙂 to ship to the US!! I guess I will have to live vicariously through you …

  • Laura

Welcome! Not sure which products it’s worth to get over here vs at home for you, but I love the NARS on Bleeker Street and the Inglot in Chelsea Market. Of course stopping by any of the makeup departments in some of the big 5th Ave shops is fun too. Outside of makeup, check out the Highline Park and Waffles & Dinges shop/trucks- they’re my favorite spots to take friends who visit 🙂

  • Amber Hunter

Wow all of those products are gorgeous! I’m visiting NYC in about 3 weeks but I don’t think I can bring quite so many goodies with me. Enjoy your trip, I’m sure you’ll have a great time!
    Lovely Notions

  • I seriously adore that Paul and Joe filofax makeup bag! It’s just so chic. It’s still out of stock. Boo hiss!

  • Claudia Louise Fox

I keep reading about nars palettes, ill admit its getting hard to resist buying one now :/ oh dear! Lol

  • I wish to have the Guerlain Terracotta Light Sheer Bronzing Powder 😀 excellent choice, but no pink? You would want to pop-out in NY!

Feel free to take a look at my blog if anyone gets time down here in the comments, just starting off. It would be greatly appreciated if i could have some feed back from fellow bloggers! 🙂 xxxxxx

Not sure if these are exclusive in the US but I think you would totally love the new Covergirl eyeshadow pencil in 350 Melted Caramel Flame. None of the other colors appeal to me but this shade is the perfect subtly shimmery brownish taupe color. I’ve been wearring it pretty much every day since I got it since its such a great color, so fast to apply and lasts decently without a primer (also got L’oreal’s bronzed taupe at your recommendation which I have yet to even open but can’t wait to try). Have fun in NYC! Can’t wait for a haul a video 🙂

  • intrigued by the guerlain powder and the mac lipstick. i feel like i’m always set with my mac lipstick collection and then i see another color pop up with someone and think, “right. got to have that.” oi vey.

  • M.

I don’t know how you did it but I really admire you for it!!! 😀 (I’m talking about you going all the way across the board without taking your whole makeup collection with you- I could never be so contained, I always overpack :S)
