Let’s Talk TV…

It’s no secret that I’m a big TV watcher. Well not TV broadcast live on a television – I haven’t turned the TV on since Great British Bake Off was last on – I make my own schedule thanks to Netflix, Amazon Prime Instant Video, iTunes and a tonne of DVD boxsets. Somebody on Twitter mentioned in passing that I should collate all my favourite series’ that I’ve watched into one ‘Need something to watch? Then watch these…’ recommendation post, so given that it’s a Sunday and I’m sure there will be a few of you who are in the mood for a binge sesh *raises hand*, here it is…

THINGS TO WATCH THAT ARE KINDA SERIOUS BUT RIDICULOUSLY WELL WRITTEN AND WILL MAKE YOU WANT TO WATCH THE NEXT EPISODE IMMEDIATELY. Mark and I flit between these types of shows and then something funny to balance it out, but currently we’re still wadding through The West Wing which is so darn convincing I sometimes think that Martin Sheen is President. I also love C.J. C.J kicks ass ok? I think we’re up to around season five so no spoilers please and thank you. Orange Is The New Black is obviously awesome and we worked our way through the first season in about three days (I’m saving the third season for a rainy day which I’m terribly excited about). Things we’ve also watched and loved in the past are Scandal (I had so many ‘NO FRICKING WAY’ moments while watching that one) and Mad Men which will make you fall in love a little with Don Draper and wonder why your boyfriend doesn’t wear jaunty hats.

THINGS TO WATCH THAT WILL MAKE YOU LAUGH AND YOU’LL HAPPILY WATCH THE REPEATS OF TIME AND TIME AGAIN. This is my favourite genre to watch because who doesn’t love a good belly laugh? When we first moved in together almost three years ago now we stumbled across an old boxset of Arrested Development that Mark owned and had never watched. It was amazing and we still do the chicken dance and chuckle about it now. Friends is a classic and I’m still a bit emotionally traumatised that it’s over. The same goes for Scrubs (side note: you must follow Zach Braff on Instagram because he is a certified hottie and will forever and always be J.D in my heart). We’re currently on 30 Rock which is really stirring up some strange feelings inside of me for Alec Baldwin and making me fall in love with Tina Fey – can we just be best mates? Parks & Recreation is one of my favourite things I’ve watched over the years and if I even just think of the finale I well up. Amazing cast, completely hilarious and it never gets old (the episode ‘Fancy Party’ is one of my favourite episodes of anything ever). However, the best BEST thing I’ve watched is The Office – love the UK one, but the American one is on a whole different level (mainly because there’s a shedload of episodes). The Jim and Pam will they/won’t they, Michael Scott’s conference room shenanigans, Dwight Schrute and his love of beets; Mark and I say ‘Bears, Beets, BATTLESTAR GALACTICA’ to each other most days. I’ve also watched the ‘Casino Night’ episode about 27 times.

THINGS TO WATCH WHEN YOU’RE HOME ALONE AND YOU JUST WANT TO SWITCH YOUR BRAIN OFF AND HAVE HAPPY THOUGHTS. There are some programmes which Mark just flat out refuses to watch with me and so these are the ones that I watch when I’m home alone. Modern Family, New Girl and The Mindy Project are all from a similar vein in that they can make you laugh and cry. I never think I’m that emotionally invested in them, but really miss ’em when they’re not on air. My favourite, favourite thing to watch though when I just want to have happy thoughts is RuPaul’s Drag Race. I’m telling you these Drag Queens are fierce, funny and know how to apply false lashes better than you ever will. Can I get an amen?
