Hourglass Ambient Light Strobing Powders? Get In…

IMG_0876 IMG_0877IMG_0849

Hourglass pretty much have the powder market single-handedly down. The Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder in Dim Light is one of my favourite powders to set with, I get a tonne of use from the two Ambient Lighting Blushes from their Ambient Lighting Edit and their Ambient Lighting Bronzer in Luminous Bronze (again from that palette, side note: the other shade they do is way too orange on me) is something I use most days. You catch my drift. They’re lovely. Beautifully blendable, subtle, completely in line with that whole ‘no makeup, makeup’ vibe and despite the hefty price tag they’re a formula that warrants it, in my opinion. So when they released the new Ambient Strobe Lighting Powders, which are basically their version of a highlight powder, it was a shoo-in that I was going to become a fan…

The Ambient Strobe Lighting Powders are basically the same as their Ambient Lighting Powders but with slightly more emphasis on the shimmer. I don’t want to say glitter necessarily, because that conjures up an image of big shards of silver glitter that we used to put on our bodies, hair and cheekbones in the ’90’s, but there are varying sizes of glimmering particles in there which when applied to the skin gives off a subtle, but ‘definitely there’ highlight. There are four shades in total and something for all complexions (check out the full reviews on Temptalia for swatches of them all), but when I went into store and had a play, it was Brilliant Strobe Light that stood out for me.

The others in the range seemed a bit too pink or peachy for my liking, so with Brilliant being the most yellow-toned and pale of the four available, that’s what I ended up going home with. It’s an odd one in that the base colour literally blends away into my skin and disappears, but behind it leaves a soft glow that only really shows itself in direct light. It’s one of those products that you’ll see a difference with, but no-one else will – you know the type. Personally I like it kind of thrown everywhere as a bit of a highlight on days when I can’t really be bothered to apply makeup or I wear it as a pre-emptive highlighter before I throw on the BECCA Shimmering Skin Perfector Pressed in Moonstone on days when I’m going a bit more full-on with things. In fact I’d dub this the more subtle version of Moonstone as the tones are pretty much exactly the same. On my skintone, this works nicely under the eyes too as a bit of a brightener and a concealer creasing killer.

Bascially, Brilliant is brilliant. Quick question to end on – has anyone tried the Ambient Strobe Lighting Sculptor? Thoughts?Seems interesting…
