Holidays By AERIN Lauder

Another day, another palette. That’s how it seems in the beauty world at the moment. Christmas collections are pumping out fast, and I for one bloody love it. Nothing satisfies my cosmetic taste buds like a nice edit of tantalising shades, beautiful textures all packaged in one convenient compact – and the AERIN Holiday Style Palette* fits just that bill. If you haven’t heard of AERIN already, it’s a line created by Aerin Lauder, the grand-daughter of Estée Lauder. After working at her grandmother’s company for 20 years, she’s decided to branch out and create her own lifestyle line and the first top is beauty. If you want to develop a wee girl crush then read her interview on Into the Gloss or have a peek at her website – swoon. She released her ‘Essentials’ collection earlier in the year and adds to it seasonally with an limited edition edited offering. The Holiday Style Palette comes from the Holiday 2012 Colour Collection, and the minute it landed on my desk I had to have a play…

The palette contains six eyeshadows ranging from classic neutrals to smokey metallics and a powder highlighter in the shade Gilt. The packaging certainly has an Estée Lauder feel to it – although is lighter than you would expect for such a golden chuck of a palette, I will however endeavour to keep it in it’s pretty pastel pink suede pocket for ever and ever and ever. Of course my eyes were naturally drawn to the more wearable, everyday shades of eyeshadow, but I’d thought I’d mix it up and layer on the sultry cocoa brown flecked with gold housed in the bottom right of the palette. I didn’t bother with the applicators (as always with brushes that come with palettes are pretty crappy), I blended it on with a MAC 217 and let it work it’s smokey magic. I did use some of the palette shimmery cream shade to soften the edges slightly and hey presto – one sultry evening eye sorted. I dusted the highlighter over my cheeks – very impressed, it has a perfect for parties golden yellow tone to it – and I was ready. I may have given the boy a fright when I answered the door as a dark eye on my is a bit of a rarity, but I’ll definitely be grabbing this palette next time I’m out on the town.

AERIN is currently exclusive to Harrods and Selfridges London and this palette in particular will set you back £45 – one for the Christmas list perhaps? (I will be using this excuse on pricey posts until after 26th December, be warned). Not the cheapest colour combo option out there, but a luxe and beautiful one nonetheless. I have to say that if I was to ever create a line (a girl can dream, non?), it wouldn’t be a million miles away from what Aerin has developed. Simple and high-end, sticking to the essentials with a few hints of seasonal shading thrown in. Now that’s an idea…
