Holiday Beauty Packing (Revisited)

If you were a regular round these parts at this time last year then you probably remember my ‘Holiday Beauty Packing’ series that I harped on about during summer season. Well, I thought I’d just touch on it again for any new VDM’ers out there (hello and thanks for having a read!) and as a little refresher for any of you who are heading away anytime soon. It was a five part shindig with pointers for everyone whether you’re heading to a beach, city, festival or campsite. I even made little print-off PDF checklists for you. And though I haven’t got anything new to add video-wise this year I thought I’d drop in some extraย advice that’s arisen my own travels this year:

– Take a mini roll of sellotape with you and tape down all flip top lids as at some point during travelling one will explode and completely cover all surrounding products in hair conditioner and ruin the bag you’ve stored it in. I’m speaking from experience here.

– Don’t overpack your hand luggage with cosmetics unless you’re on a long haul flight and really are going to take advantage of that mini in-flight facial routine that you’ve managed squished in. Keep it to the essentials you’d need if your checked luggage was to be delayed at the other end.

Always take a flannel with you. The amount of times I’ve been caught out with this one convinced that the hotel at the other end will have me covered, which usually ends up in me using a sopping wet hand towel to remove my cleanser every AM and PM. Buy the cheapest pack you can so if you have to leave a damp one there the morning of check-out it isn’t too heartbreaking.

– Earplugs will be your best friend. Pack a pair in your hand luggage, a pair in your case and stick another lot in just for good luck. Holidays are about being well rested after all – am I right?

– While it’s easy to get caught up planning your perfect holiday beauty edit, don’t forget the essentials: toothbrush, toothpaste, a hairband or two, cotton wool and buds, tweezers, deodorant etc, etc – you know the drill.

So check out the playlists with all the videos here (PDF’s in the description box). Happy packing and safe travels!ย

those were soo handy posts – I’ve given them a go a lot and they saved me multiple times! Thanks Anna ๐Ÿ™‚

  • Love the idea of sellotape – genius! x

  • I loved this series last year, thanks for the tips:) And I took a mini bioderma away with me, so it’s empty now, but I can’t figure out how to remove the lid to re-fill it! Sounds silly but I’ve tried everything..Any advice?

I ended up using a tiny funnel I got with a perfume atomiser. I just stuck it through the cap and filled it up again.

I loved your packing series Anna!! I’m leaving for Italy in a couple of days so I’ll give it a squiz!! (But mine’s a beach, city and countryside holiday, by car, so there are no limits to what I can pack….right ;)?

  • Mezzy

Can you PLEASE please do one on long haul flights. love your blog

  • I would love to know what you would take on a long haul flight! I’m so skeptical about whether I’d actually end up applying makeup, but I’d also be nervous putting the products in my luggage.

I’m pretty sure Anna has a video on that too – though the one I’m thinking of May be quite old now!

    • Mezzy

Yes, me too! There arent that many long haul flight vids. PLEASE DO ONE ๐Ÿ™‚

  • Never thought to tape down all lids, what a good idea!

  • Thank you for the tips ๐Ÿ™‚ Especially the sellotape on the lids one because I always find my containers popping open and it is quite annoying at times too! Will remember to bring a flannel next time im travelling away~ I always make the same mistake expecting one to be there like you.

Hope you have a wonderful day ~

You’re so right about the flannel situation, it’s especially awkward when the towels are white- hello orange marks! I never take cosmetics in my hand luggage because it’s always a faff having to take everything out at security.

  • Really helpful tips, thanks for sharing.

  • The mini Bioderma looks so cute! Really useful tips too.

So true about the exploding bottles… and it’s always something thick like conditioner or body cream. At least my bag and all the rest of my products smell nice… D:

I love seeing the travel size Rahua hair products! Lovely, and nontoxic <3

  • I think the tweezers and mini scissors are so important! I always find that I need them when I don’t have them.

Great selection of products, makes me want to go holiday make up shopping,

  • I hate it when my products explode, so good tip on taping them!

  • Hollie Miles

Love this post! Organisation is my favourite. Good tip on the tape – I lost an entire bottle of micellar water on my recent trip to Paris!

  • Emma and Emily

Love these packing guides so much! Decanting anything into smaller containers makes a massive difference to my weight and space load. I think a nail file is one of the most important things to bring! A scraggly nail is the bane of my life.

  • So you blog, vlog, and film as well as editing everything, reviewing products, attending meeting and you even create PDFs to accompany your videos?! Wow, Anna! You deserve tonnes more recognition, but I know that all of your hard work will really pay off, and in the meantime I’m very grateful that you do so much.

Wow, these are great…thanks so much ๐Ÿ™‚

  • The sellotape is a fab idea, so simple! I think I need some cheap flannels too because it’s annoying not having one the other end ๐Ÿ™

My must have mascara for traveling is Younique’s 3D Fiber Lash Mascara. Have you tried it? Shipping to UK will begin on October 1. They have a wonderful makeup and skin care line. I would love if you’d do a review of a few key products. Find me at: or instagram @vitaditiffa

  • I’ve become quite good at packing since I always travel with carry on only (I’m a city tour girl at heart so I need only the essentials) and the thing I agree more with is… Don’t forget the essentials! ๐Ÿ˜‰
