I’m notoriously unprepared when it comes to Halloween. Aside from the time I pre-ordered a sumo wrestler costume and inflated it in time for some spooky shenanigans, it’s a much more regular occurrence that I’ll draw some whiskers on my cheeks, wear all black, put on a cat ear headband and leave it at that. But what if you haven’t even got time for the cat ears? Well today is your lucky day for I have thrown together three Halloween beauty hacks, with no purchase required. I’m pretty much 100% sure you’ll have these in your stash already. Easy peasy. Prepare to scare…
Black Lips. The easiest get-out and least imaginative, but probably sexiest of my tips, is to toss your usual lipstick offering for a lacquering of black eye pencil. I got to work with my Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil in Zero and did a bit of filling in with the NYX Jumbo Eye Pencil in Black Bean. Done. Pair with a bronzer-free base and a smokey eye (may I recommend the CHANEL Illusion d’Ombre in Mirifique, a new addition of mine) for a spooky-edge on your usual makeup menu. Best of all? This stuff ain’t gonna budge.
Blood Soaked Tips. For a chic-take on a Halloween-inspired mani, drench your nude painted tips with a trickle of blood. All that’s required are a red nail polish and a thin eyeliner brush that you don’t mind getting a little messy. I went for Essie’s Topless and Barefoot as a base and Aperitif as the blood, painted on with a MAC 210 Brush. Apply your nude, then dip your brush into the red and draw on a drip – the messier the better.
Bloody Bits. Screw fake blood. All you need is a red lip liner for things to look gory. I’ve found the MAC Pro Longwear Lip Pencil in Kiss Me Quick after a quick root around in my stocks that’s perfectly up for the job. Take a freshly sharpened rouge pencil and draw on blood drips from whatever facial crevas you fancy. It might not look like the most realistic reenactment of gushing vessels you’ve ever seen, but if you want to get real fancy add in a bit of a white and black pencil to make thing look a little more 3D. To keep things more on the beautiful side of scary I’d plump for eyes – but nostrils, ear holes or lips will do. Nice.
