Estée Lauder Perfectionist OR Dior Star Foundation?

IMG_9140

My current most tweeted question that pops up on my mentions timeline is ‘If you had to pick between the Dior Star Foundation and the Estée Lauder Perfectionist Foundation, what one would you pick?’. Now this is a tough question (#BeautyAddictProblems), but it’s one that I’m going to attempt to answer here because I just couldn’t do it in 140 characters. So here’s the breakdown…

PACKAGING: How similar can you get? Navy lids with a metallic rim, housing a pump underneath and a glass bottle that holds in the formula. Both 30mls with the Estée Lauder bottle being a little bigger than the Dior. WINNER: It’s a draw.

PRICE: The Dior comes in a £32, while the Estée Lauder is a tad more pricey at £37. WINNER: Dior Star Foundation.

SHADE RANGE: Currently available in the UK market, Estée Lauder has 22 shades on sale in this formula and Dior have 16 colours of the Star Foundation on counter. I’m 1W2 Sand in the Estée Lauder and have 020 in the Dior, though now it’s coming into the cooler months (read: non-tanned months) I’m definitely a 010. WINNER: Estée Lauder Perfectionist Foundation.

COVERAGE: I’ve conducted the half and half experiment to directly compare and I’d say that the Dior (see it on my face here) has a touch more coverage than the Estée Lauder (see it on my face here). It’s not a huge difference, but the Dior side of my face looked a little bit more evened-out than the other. WINNER: Dior Star Foundation.

FINISH: OK, now this is getting hard. Both give a natural, kinda glowy look to the face but without looking greasy, you know? But when push comes to shove, side by side, I’d say that I prefer the look of the Estée Lauder. It just looks a bit more like a natural sheen, whereas the Dior looks a bit more put on, a tad bit more hi-shine. WINNER: Estée Lauder Perfectionist Foundation.

LONGEVITY: Now I actually wore both on my face for a whole day, which was an interesting one because the Dior is noticeably darker than the Estée Lauder, and I have to say both wore in a very similar way. By the end of the day things had broken down, but there was still some decent coverage left in my less oily areas and by 10 hours wear things needed touching up. WINNER: It’s a draw.

…so overall – it’s a draw, but there are a few points to take away from this. If you want something with a seriously dewy finish then grab the Dior Star Foundation, but if it’s a lighter coverage with a more natural finish you’re looking for then the Estée Lauder Perfectionist is your guy.
