Let me tell you two titbits of beauty trivia that may come in handy during a pub quiz one day. Number one – it’s been 100 years this year since Max Factor launched their first product, Grease Paint Foundation – that’s a lot of birthday bumps. Number two – Max Factor was an actual person. Mind blown. A Russian émigré to America, he became a driving force in the LA film industry responsible for the beauty secrets of the film stars of the day, even winning an Oscar for his work. I’ll throw in another little fact as well, just incase there’s a bonus round. Max Factor was the man who actually coined the phrase ‘make-up’ and during his career launched many techniques, formulas and products that are still used today. His Lip Pomade first released back in 1928 got the ball rolling for what we now know as lip gloss, Creme Puff Make-Up which is still on counters today first arrived in 1953, in 1958 he released the first mascara housed in a tube with a wand – you get the drift.

I’ve partnered with Max Factor to give you a little look into what this exciting next few month’s has in store for them. So to celebrate a ‘100 Years of Glamour’, Max Factor have teamed up with Gwyneth Paltrow to recreate some of the most iconic looks worn by beauty muses from the past century. There’s four in total: Audrey Hepburn from the ’50’s, Brigitte Bardot of the ’60’s, Farrah Fawcett from the ’70’s and Madonna’s ’80’s look. Step away from your computer for a second, imagine I’m donning pearls, squint a bit and you may be able to tell that I’ve attempted to recreate the Audrey Hepburn look. Here’s what I used…

I started off by smoothing in some of the Facefinity All-Day Flawless 3-in-1 Foundation in Beige all over and dusting a bit of the Flawless Perfection Blush in Natural Glow on the cheeks. For brows I gave them a quick groom and fill-in with the Eyebrow Pencil in Hazel and then provided a bit of base on the eyes with the Wild Shadow Pots in Pale Pebble. Now the eyes are the focus here so before I went in with the classic Hepburn flick I added a touch of shimmer to my inner corners with the Max Effect Dip-In Eye Shadow in Silver Lounge and applied a bit of the shade Bronzed Glow in the crease before getting handy with my blending brush again. Now to attempt the line I went in with the Colour X-Pert Waterproof Eyeliner in Deep Black, starting right at the beginning of the lash line and taking it to the outer corners, flicking it up and out slightly. After lashings of the Masterpiece Max Waterproof Mascara I finished things off by dabbing in some of the Colour Elixir Lipstick in Burnt Caramel on my pout and adding a layer of the Glossfinity Nail Polish in Pearly Pink on my nails.

So are you like me? A bit of an Audrey fan. Or do you fancy the doe-eyed look of Brigitte or the bronzed glow of Farah? Perhaps you prefer a bit of Madonna’s more colourful look? What Gwyneth recreation is your favourite?

There has been too much sponsored content recently… I love your blog but I find articles like this really boring, I mean I’m not sure what exactly I’m meant to be getting out of this post? That Audrey wore winged liner? I get that you have to make money but there has to be a better way to do so, one that is less obvious? I’m just starting to lose my trust in your opinions which is sad because yours was my favourite blog of them all and I really valued what you said about certain products 🙁

    • Marie

      I absolutely agree!

    • Elise

I agree! She did a Head and Shoulders sponsored youtube video the other day and I just switched off. It all just seems very false and forced.

  • The Audrey Look is definitely my favourite:) And your winged liner here is on point!

  • Avanti

I love the look you recreated and it doesn’t bother me one bit that you worked in conjunction with Maxfactor. As a fashion blogger myself, I understand that working with brands expands your horizons.
    Keep up the work.

  • Madison Moore

I really love this look, its so subtle but very beautiful.

  • Gaby Zickar

Such a gorgeous look, suits you so much!

  • Line

I’m a huge Audrey Fan! You look amazing and I feel like I need all of the products. Is the eyeliner easy to apply? 🙂 x

  • Candy Caves

Gwyneth can only do the Audrey look, the rest looks totally strange and unnatural on her… Come on, Madonna? 😉 And you look stunning as always Anna, but I also don’t think you should do these kind of posts…. At least not exactly like this one… A total look is boring and seems like you came out of one of these ‘spontaneous’ tv commercials where a make up artist shows a ‘model’ in the ‘mabelline fall winter style of 2014’…. This always looks uninspired, set up and somehow wrong.

    • Candy Caves

wow that sounds very negative 🙂 still i loooooove your blog and enjoy seeing you in your youtube clips very much!!!!! so if you get products from the brands and find they work great for you, that´s perfect, because then we don’t have to try them all out ourselves…. but these total sponsored looks… just not my thing.

  • Stephanie

What a great post! I never knew Max Factor had such an important role in the makeup industry!

  • Minnie M

The Audrey look is my favorite one.
I love your recreation. It really suits you and looks like something I would wear on a daily basis. It’s put together, but not over the top. Love it! 🙂

I just wanted to say that even though this is sponsored post and you created simple makeup look I still enjoyed reading it. If nothing else I really like the lipstick shade and would really like to try it out.

    Have a nice day!

  • Anna, you’ve created a look that is elegant and beautiful, it also really suits you!

Just wanted to add that I don’t find the sponsored posts a problem at all, everyone has to make money at the end of the day and I’m sure you wouldn’t do such lovely or positive posts if you didn’t truly believe in the products or brands themselves, you seem to be just that honest kinda gal. So keep up the great work and posts 🙂

  • Loved all those facts! I was reading up on Max Factor in Boots the other day, so brilliant. Absolutely love your look here. Very ladylike indeed. xx

When I open posts on my phone a huge popup as covers the whole screen that I can’t close! So frustrating when I want to enjoy your content, please try to fix this!

That often happens on my iPad too, sometimes it goes away after I refresh, but it usually doesn’t! Ads always load faster than Anna’s content, so there’s never a way round it.

  • Love this look- it’s super pretty. You really suit that Audrey liner!

I love this look! Audrey is my favorite, and that has always been one of my favorite makeup looks, although I also adore Bardot. Max Factor was my first foundation as a teenager, for years I only used Panstick and Pancake, and mourned a little when I heard they were being discontinued. I will have to go see what is new as I love your look here! Thanks so much for this post.

  • Love this look! I’m an Audrey fan for sure! 😀

It’s a pity that Max Factor won’t turn their pioneering spirit to stopping animal testing on their products. Sorry, I’m not usually a troll but after all their amazing history it annoys me that they perpetuate this cruelty.
