Let me tell you two titbits of beauty trivia that may come in handy during a pub quiz one day. Number one – it’s been 100 years this year since Max Factor launched their first product, Grease Paint Foundation – that’s a lot of birthday bumps. Number two – Max Factor was an actual person. Mind blown. A Russian émigré to America, he became a driving force in the LA film industry responsible for the beauty secrets of the film stars of the day, even winning an Oscar for his work. I’ll throw in another little fact as well, just incase there’s a bonus round. Max Factor was the man who actually coined the phrase ‘make-up’ and during his career launched many techniques, formulas and products that are still used today. His Lip Pomade first released back in 1928 got the ball rolling for what we now know as lip gloss, Creme Puff Make-Up which is still on counters today first arrived in 1953, in 1958 he released the first mascara housed in a tube with a wand – you get the drift.
I’ve partnered with Max Factor to give you a little look into what this exciting next few month’s has in store for them. So to celebrate a ‘100 Years of Glamour’, Max Factor have teamed up with Gwyneth Paltrow to recreate some of the most iconic looks worn by beauty muses from the past century. There’s four in total: Audrey Hepburn from the ’50’s, Brigitte Bardot of the ’60’s, Farrah Fawcett from the ’70’s and Madonna’s ’80’s look. Step away from your computer for a second, imagine I’m donning pearls, squint a bit and you may be able to tell that I’ve attempted to recreate the Audrey Hepburn look. Here’s what I used…
I started off by smoothing in some of the Facefinity All-Day Flawless 3-in-1 Foundation in Beige all over and dusting a bit of the Flawless Perfection Blush in Natural Glow on the cheeks. For brows I gave them a quick groom and fill-in with the Eyebrow Pencil in Hazel and then provided a bit of base on the eyes with the Wild Shadow Pots in Pale Pebble. Now the eyes are the focus here so before I went in with the classic Hepburn flick I added a touch of shimmer to my inner corners with the Max Effect Dip-In Eye Shadow in Silver Lounge and applied a bit of the shade Bronzed Glow in the crease before getting handy with my blending brush again. Now to attempt the line I went in with the Colour X-Pert Waterproof Eyeliner in Deep Black, starting right at the beginning of the lash line and taking it to the outer corners, flicking it up and out slightly. After lashings of the Masterpiece Max Waterproof Mascara I finished things off by dabbing in some of the Colour Elixir Lipstick in Burnt Caramel on my pout and adding a layer of the Glossfinity Nail Polish in Pearly Pink on my nails.
