Burberry Lip Mist in Oxblood

‘Burberry’ and ‘Lipstick’ are two words that go together as well as ‘Ryan’ and ‘Gosling’ in my book. The few nudes from them that I own are some of my most slicked-on on a daily basis. But with their latest drop they are turning their attention to bolds and I’m listening. The shade in question is Oxblood, a plummy red – released as part of their Trench Kisses autumn ’13 range to tie in with the current Prorsum collection - in lipstick, pencil, gloss and nail polish forms. There are two lipsticks in the line-up; same colour, different textures. I have their Lip Mist, which depicts it as a sheer offering that coats the lips with a light veil of moisture-rich colour. It’s one of those ‘pat on or build-up’ jobbies that will please dark lip newbies and old hands alike, though I’d throw it in the category of a ‘chic colour’; a shade that when applied just makes things look ‘polished’, not too try-hard. I like it worn best with a well-worked base and minimal eye makeup in a kind of ‘oh I just rolled out of bed and threw on this lipstick‘ fashion.

It’s £22.50 from the Burberry site, though I always find a trip to the counter in the Oxford Street John Lewis to be a fun and er, fruitful one.
