Barely There with Burberry

Every now and again I like to take a peruse back through my archives at VDM; scoff at my jaunty photography, over enthusiastic love for fake tan and ending of every post with a winky faced smiley (gawd, I still do love a winky faced smiley). But sometimes I come across a corker if I say so myself, and my ‘Burberry Face‘ that I posted all the way back in July last year still remains one of my favourite make ups that I’ve featured on the blog. Burberry just do that whole ‘barely there’ thing beautifully. A neutral lineup with a well placed hint of colour here and there – I have to say I’m looking forward to their nail colour being released this autumn, I’m having quite the love affair with red polish at the moment but more on that later – it’s never overdone, the epitome of subtle and sophisticated. Le sigh. I’ve been playing with some of their latest Spring releases* and channeling my inner Edie Campbell – a girl can dream, right?

Burberry’s Sheer Luminous Fluid Foundation is one of my favourite items from their lineup. Heads up, it’s strongly scented with rose – as is most of the range – but I lap that up, slap it on and bask in the light veil of satin finished coverage it gives. One pump of No.02 mixed with two pumps of No.05 suits me just fine. I then used the Sheer Concealer in No.01 Light Beige under the eyes and on any redness. It may just fit the guise of many the radiance boosting concealer, but this stuff actually packs quite the punch; dries almost matte and made light work of my little red nose. To round of the complexion I dusted Sheer Luminous Compact Foundation in No.03 all over, which to my delight left a peek of skin sheen breaking through and dabbed a small amount of Light Glow Natural Blush in No.04 Peony Blush on the apples with a lighter than light hand.

I kept eyes über simple, just popping on an eye brightening dose of colour and subtle definition. A wash of their lightly shimmered bone beige Sheer Eye Shadow in No.02 Trench was swept across the eyelids as more of a neutralising step than anything else. I then traced the Eye Definer in No.06 Golden Brown (of which I’ve professed my love for before) on the outer thirds of the top and bottom lashline before smudging out to disguise my wonky penmanship for that slept-in smokey look. For lashes I layered on Effortless Mascara in No.03 Midnight Blonde, which as much as I try to get on with, is just not beefy enough for my tastes. It tries, and coats the lashes with some sort of definition but I’m just way too subscribed to the curled and slightly clumped ways of L’Oreal’s Telescopic Waterproof Mascara.

After my boldest of bold offerings yesterday, the neutral lip was back on the makeup menu today. I went the whole hog, even lining my lips with the ‘my lips but a tad darker’ brown tinged pink, Lip Definer in No.07 Rosewood, which gave some natural looking support to my somewhat lacking lip line. To finish I smoothed over their Lip Mist in No.213 Field Rose – a balm/colour hybrid that was love at first application. With equal doses of brown and pink this injected just the right shade; another nude lip love, as I need another one.

So please do excuse the above misty eyed photo of this makeup chosen for its slightly out-of-focus quality that somehow manages to disguise my shining beacon of a cold-induced red nose I’m nursing right now. Oh the glamour. But you get the gist. Au Naturale, barely there makeup? Burberry’s got your back. Again.
