An Ode to Eyeshadow

A strange this is happening. When I’m sitting at my vanity each morning deciding what makeup to sport for the day (decisions, decisions), I have found myself reaching out for an eyeshadow and throwing one on as part of my routine. Regular readers of my blog will no doubt gasp out loud at this news as eyeshadow has always been pretty low down on my list of makeup priorities, but with the colder weather setting in and any hint of warmth in my skin fading fast I’m embracing a slightly more ‘done-up‘ eye than I usually do. There’s even an eyeliner thrown in there – and it’s not nude! Hold your horses, love! Here’s what products I’ve had on rotation for the last week…

My skin really isn’t a happy chappy at the moment so out go the tinted moisturisers and in come the big boys – I’m not sure anything will ever knock Jemma Kidd Light As Air off the top foundation spot, but I hope something does soon as it’s now discontinued – boo. The shade 2 does a good job of evening out my skintone without looking too heavy and paired with the Bobbi Brown Creamy Concealer in Sand it rounds of my winter base. I’m not looking too tanned up at the minute so the Guerlain Terracotta Light Sheer Bronzing Powder in Brunettes 02* is adding a touch of warmth without looking too OOT and I’ve been finishing off my cheeks with probably the most natural blush I own – Laura Mercier Second Skin Cheek Colour in Peach Whisper. Now for the exciting bit, I’ve rediscovered an old favourite eyeshadow in my stash – NARS Ondine, a purple tinged cool toned taupe. I tend to wear it on its own just blended all over the lid which gives a nice alternative to the usual bronzey smokey eye –  a subtle romantic look if you will. Paired with the Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil in Smog* lightly across the top lash line and dotted into the outer third of the lower lashline and lashings of L’Oreal’s Telescopic Waterproof Mascara the eyes are finito. My lips have been a little dry so I’m avoiding lipsticks and layering on the lipgloss and the Laura Mercier Lip Glacé’s are some of my favourites – Orange Tulip is my shade du jour.

Who knows what I’ll be slapping on next? A bold lip and a smokey eye? Liquid liner? An eyeshadow that isn’t a neutral? Crazier things have happened…
