A Very Diptyque Christmas

Diptyque. Christmas. Collection. Three words that had me hot footing it down to their Brook Street boutique faster than a beauty blogger stampede to Space NK on their post-Christmas sale day (sidenote, always ah-mazing deals to be had in there). Diptyque always produce something special out of the bag for the festive season and this year is no different. ‘Tales of the Arabian Nights’ is the theme, in a collection based around three scents all housed in jewel-toned holders that the minute I saw I was envisioning on my window sill behind the Christmas tree and thinking ‘What colour would go best with my decoration colour-scheme?’…

Lovers of classic Christmas pine and woody scents will love the ‘Sapin Doré’ Oriental Spruce infused with Eucalyptus camphor, peppery Siberian pine and a dash of Canadian fir balsam. If ‘Three Kings’ style gifting is more your thing then ‘Oilban’ Frankincense candle with a heady mix of elemi resin, Somalian incense and myrrh could hold that coveted place on your window sill. For me the stand-out scent was Amber Oud (try saying ‘Oud’ out loud, it’s very entertaining), a festive yet refined combination of saffron, ginger, nutmeg and cinnamon accompanied by cedar, patchouli and white pear. Sounds complex, but to me it’s almost like a spiced black cherry scent. Sweet but with just the right amount of kick. Given that there was a wee discount given at the event, I happily walked away with my newest candle purchase, and yes it fits with the tree colour-scheme very well.

The limited edition Christmas candles are slightly pricer at £45, but they are larger than their standard size offerings and I usually tend to wait till I have points on my Space NK N.dulge card to soften the blow. A Christmas pressie for yourself is allowed, surely? We’ll just ignore the fact that it’s only November….
