A Day in Makeup

Day in Makeup 3You know the whole clichéd day to night thing? Add a liner, slick on a bolder pout and you’re ready for a night on the tiles – you know the drill. Well here’s my take on a day in makeup; from morning to evening with a bit of touching-up in between. It’s a bit of a rarity that a day crops up with me out and about till eve with a makeup change required half-way, but it does happen once in a blue moon. And when it occurs, I want to pack light with minimal products that I can whack on sub five minutes in a bathroom, cramped over my compact with less than flattering lighting. Oh the glamour.

On the menu first is a line-up that looks like any other day’s face. Dior Nudeskin BB Creme in 002 lays out just the right balance of coverage and glow – plus layers nicely, if I need to top-up again later. Then I round off the base with Clinique’s Airbrush Concealer in 4* and Bourjois’ Cream Blush in Nude Velvet* – the latter of which finishes to an almost matte touch so stays in place for the long haul. One product that keeps unruly brows in check is Hourglass’ Arch Brow Sculpting Pencil in Soft Brunette which saves them from curling over my sunglasses all day. And with a coat of mascara or two, MaxFactor’s False Lash Effect Waterproof and a wash of balm, Carmex’s Moisture Plus in Peach, I’m out the door with toast in hand and ready to race the bus.

Now for the top-up. Which depending on the time I pasted my face on, usually hits post-lunchtime, when I look in the mirror and realise that I’m looking slightly awry. There are usually two major makeup battlegrounds that need tending to first: brows and bags. My brows can be quickly seen to with a the brush of a spoolie and bags are usually mascara flecked and looking a little panda-like so I take a cotton bud swiped under my eyes to take care of that. Product-wise, a little of CHANEL Les Beiges in B20 all over with the compact included brush never goes a miss. Mopping up any excess shine (nice!) and imparting a sheer dusting of coverage without ramping up the cakey stakes. And for midday lips I like to add a touch of colour – by then the daily Pret Chocolate Mousse is devouredLipstick Queen Lipstick in Perfect Wave is my current summer lip jam, but more on that another day…

By the time evening rolls round my mind has usually wandered to a place where all it can calculate is my E.T.A into bed and how many episodes of The Office I’ll be able to squeeze in before I snooze. But depending whereabouts I am while semi daydreaming it may require a slightly more defined eye. For this I say scrap the liner, get your fingers a little dirty, have the loo roll close by and smudge on something bronzey and smokey like MAC’s Pro Longwear Paint Pot in Eclair, or Maybelline’s 24hr Colour Tattoo in On and On Bronze if you fancy something taupe-ier. I give cheeks a swirl of something like Guerlain Terracotta Light Sheer Bronzing Powder in Brunettes* if I’ve been savvy enough to remember to pack a brush and a fresh coat of balm goes on the lips. Sorted.

My day in makeup: 10 products, 2 brushes, 1 spoolie, 1 cotton bud and 27 minutes spent thinking about bed.
