A CHANEL Holiday

I’ve been stuck in a nail colour rut recently. Ok, I’ve been experimenting with nail wraps, speckled nails and you know I have a penchant for sheer pinks; I’ve even indulged in a one-coat blobbed on in the back of a cab mani (which actually went surprisingly well), but I just hadn’t found ‘the one’, you know? A punch of colour that has you looking down every five minutes in a ‘new shoes‘ kind of way. Well I’ve found it. After a rummage around in the lacquer stocks I found this polish I purchased as a moving out souvenir (commemorative polishes, remember that one?), a whole five months ago that hadn’t even been slicked on once. Criminal, I know. Ladies and Gents, CHANEL’s Le Vernis in Holiday

It’s bold, brash and most certainly doesn’t fit into the creamy pastel stereotypes that are usually rocked out at this time of year. An orange tinged red released by CHANEL as part of last summer’s range and now a permanent fixture in their Le Vernish line-up. It stripes on nicely, builds well in two coats and dries to a glass-like finish. However this shade rings true with the frequent moanings of beauty buffs regrading CHANEL’s highly chip-able formulas. Two hours of wear and dents at the tips already began to occur. I found that daily mani SOS sessions with a dab of Holiday on the ends, sealed in with some Seche Vite became a nightly routine. Formula? Hell no. Colour? Hell yes. I’m awaiting with a pen in hand to note dupes.

Rut well and truly clambered out of; who knew all along that all I needed was a fingertip pop of unseasonal red? Any excuse for a CHANEL Holiday, eh.

  • This is SUCH a beautiful colour! So perfect for summer, I guess thats why they called it Holiday though…

I fell in love with this shade awhile ago and heard about a great dupe – Essie Meet Me at Sunset. And Essie’s formula is so much better!

    • Ah brilliant – thanks hun!

  • Lou

hoo roo! I think I may have a v similar polish …Revlon Colourstay in “Delicious”. No Probs with chippage ( there’s a new word! ) 🙂

    • Like that word 😉 Thanks!

  • thisgirlloveschic

    such a beautiful color!

  • super88emer

such a good dupe is revlon red bikini!

  • Gita Bončina

I bought this one last year in time for my Summer holidays. Oh boy, I couldn’t take it off, I fell in love with that shade. Still loving it :).

  • Anna

Essie clambake looks similar to me!

    • Thanks for the rec!

  • Millie

I’m in love with this colour!! 🙂 ♥

    • Me too :)

  • The colour is so gorgeous, I much prefer orangey toned reds! I definitely don’t think I could spend so much money on a CHANEL polish when they chip so easily though, you’d have thought for the price they cost they’d have sorted the formula out to last ages! There might be something in the Nails INC or Models own Ranges to dupe… just sayin’!

    • Yes have a look through the comment, people are noting loads of dupes down here!

  • LNLentz

I must be a weirdo because Chanel stays chip free on me for at least 5 days (most colors anyway), but Essie chips like a beast. Sad, sad day for my wallet.

I do agree with the below that Essie’s ‘Meet Me at Sunset’ and Revolon’s ‘Red Bikini’ are good dupes. I believe Dior’s ‘Aloha’ might work as well there’s one from Deborah Lipman that is a bit more orange…I think it has ‘Lara’ in the title, but I can remember offhand.

    • Lucky lady! And thanks for the dupe list :)

  • Sheilaoriordan75

Wearing it for work. Today paired with their new lips in le favourite and feeling a bit 60’s Hitchcock

    • Ooooo I like the sound of that!

  • Amberjsmithswk

opi monsooner or later is a good dupe

  • Megan

I have Essie Orange Its Obvious which is a really good dupe for this. Its been on my nails for 3 weeks at least now. You can get it from for £3 and free delivery, perfect! x

    • Brilliant – thanks for the recommendation hun!

  • Seana Monahan

This looks really nice! I don’t usually go for colors like this but it’d be nice for summer 🙂

    • Perfect for summer!

  • Nadia LipstickandGlitter

That’s why I have never bought Chanel polishes. At that price, the quality HAS to be there for me. It’s a non-negotiable 😉 But beautiful colour on you! x

    • Don’t blame you!

  • Serena

OPI Call Me Gwenever is quite similar, I LOVE wearing bright orange when I’m wearing all black or grey, it looks great with a khaki jacket too! x

    • Brilliant – thanks for the rec :)

  • Hope markham

I want this colour so bad!
My nails chip so quickly though so I dont think this will work well for me 🙁

    • Ah perhaps look at some of the dupes people are mentioning ;)

  • Fern Dedman

i’ve wanted this for ages but i have Essie meet me at sunset and they look pretty similar, maybe thats a dupe? 🙂 x x

    • I’ll check it out – thank you :)

  • Ally Roemer

This is lovely!  I’m a huge sucker for orange-based red polishes.  I think you’d really like OPI On Collins Avenue. xo

    • Thanks for the rec!

  • gigi

this color is so lovely on you! I love the orangey bit of it. do these polishes last well? xx. gigi. food and beauty blogger @

    • Thanks! No the lasting power isn’t that great as mentioned in the review :)

  • Maddy Cane

Love this colour, and it is a refreshing take on the classic red! xxx

    • It is! Super flattering too :)

  • Hm…not sure I know a dupe as that is one gorgeous red, but Essie’s Tangerine springs to mind.  Tangerine is a bit pinker though, definitely not as vibrant.  I’ll have to think on it some more! xx

    • Thanks for the rec ;)

  • Hearts&Crosses

This is such a gorgeous colour, but I have too many red polishes, I love the nails inc one

    • Is that Tate? I have that one too!

  • Lou S

I love this colour, but Chanel nail polishes chip so easily on me!

    • Me too :)

  • katherine.parkes

lovely shade, I’m loving oranges at the moment. Siren by Revlon is a good’un too! 🙂 x

    • Ah will have to check that out!

  • Pippa Jones

Aww its such a lovely pop of red!

    Pipp xx

  • I think a perfect dupe might be Revlon’s Hot Tamale! Try to give that one a try… and those polishes are wonderful!

  • Natalia

This has just inspired me to bring out the coral, one of my all time favourite colours for nails x

  • Isabelle

    how about opi cajun shrimp?
mine stays put forever, not a chip in sight! 😀

  • Ana

Essie’s meet me at sunset. Pretty much an exact dupe, and we can all agree that essie is esssie, can’t get any better than that.

  • Great color.

  • Ana

I guess that Mavala Waikiki Orange might be a dupe. It is a coral toned orange with a really pretty but subtle shimmering finish. I love it!
