My Working From Home Uniform (& Three Ways To Switch It Up)

The double-duty pieces that you’ll live in. Literally…

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, ‘no good work gets done in jeans‘. I’m a firm believer of the fact that in normal circumstance if you are working from home, then an elasticated waistband or just something that allows your belly to breathe a bit, is the optimal choice for me. However these aren’t normal circumstances and with a lot more of us working from home than usual, I’ve found myself getting all dreamy eyed at the thought of my jeans. WHO AM I? Turns out not leaving the house for the working day, but then not leaving it after the working day is over as well is a different kettle of fish, so I’ve been switching things up a bit.

Ultimate comfort is still the number one priority here and really that goes for any outfit that I wear, whatever the occasion. I don’t want digging in, I need to be able to sit down for long periods of time and I need to be just the right temperature – but it turns out to achieve these things I don’t have to wear tracksuit bottoms every single day. What a revelation, I know! So here are three ways that I’ve been switching it up, using things I already had in my wardrobe – and you probably already have too – to create a new working from home style that is making me feel a little more put together.

THE OVERSIZED SHIRT

This combination is my favourite. All you need are two things; an oversized shirt – doesn’t matter about the fabric, and a pair of jeans that allow you to breathe. For me that’s my RE/DONE High Rise Stove Pipe Jeans*, and an ARKET Oversized Cotton Poplin Shirt*. If I don’t fancy a black shirt I swap it in for my white shirt, my & Other Stories Oversized Cotton Shirt* and I’m pretty tempted by the blue version* too. It feels classic and effortless and just look so darn chic. Pair it with a slicked back bun and some jewellery and it makes me feel like I’ve tried, let alone look like I have. If I’m feeling a little chilly then I stick on an Everlane Pima Micro Rib Tank* underneath, or I add a chunky (obviously oversized) cardigan over the top. It’s a comfy combo and something that I could see me wearing when I’m working from home more often, even when we’re allowed out the house again.

THE LONG DRESS

Ok this is a little different for me, but dresses have been on mind since seeing the utterly stunning Monikh rocking a dress or skirt on a daily basis over on her IG. Colour me inspired. It’s perhaps a combo to crack out as the weather heats up a little, but I’ve been thinking how I could recreate the look with things that I already own, and if I put my yellow and black polka dot Realisation Par Dress, under my DemyLee Chunky Grey Knit then I can still fulfil my brief of being warm. The best bit? There is absolutely NO WAISTBAND involved so it passes the ‘belly cutting in’ test with flying colours. My suggestion would be to go for a midi-to-long length dress and something that’s strappy on the top so you can layer easily. A great way to incorporate your summer pieces into your spring wardrobe and create a new WFH silhouette.

THE SUPER COMFY CO-ORD

OK, I will admit that my version of this does look a *little* bit like a tracksuit, but my H&M Cashmere Jumper & Trousers* co-ord set that I purchased before Christmas has become like a second skin to me. In order to elevate the co-ord of out of pyjama territory I have two rules. Firstly, I do not wear them to bed, they are just too nice. I have pyjamas and then I change out of them in the morning to these; comfy into something just as comfy – what’s not to love? Secondly, it’s about the fabric; something knitted and not just woven cotton, feels a little more luxe. If you really wanted to take it to the next level then why not try a knitted midi skirt instead of trousers? That definitely veers off from the usual tracksuit silhouette. I’ve got my eye on this H&M Knitted Jumper* & Skirt* set that looks way pricier than it actually is.
