I love any excuse to put my thinking cap on and create a capsule wardrobe, whatever the occassion. As someone who spends the majority of their week in elasticated waistbands and t-shirts that have toothpaste stains engrained into them (a.k.a ‘The Working From Home Uniform’), it’s often not the best time to flex my style muscle, so the weekend is really where I really get the veins poppin’. As our friends and family are dotted all over the U.K, we sometimes find ourselves packing up and heading north from Saturday morning to Sunday afternoon, or if we’re based in Brighton for the weekend then we try and make the most of it by getting out and about on Saturday, going somewhere for dinner with mates and then venturing out for a bleary eyed brunch the following morning. Sometimes this all goes to pot and I end up in bed watching episodes of The Office on repeat, but when the aforementioned does happen it’s nice to have a small edit of clothing that’s easy to pair together, whether I’m picking it out of a suitcase or my wardrobe. So for today’s post I’ve teamed up with Topshop to show you how I’d create a weekend capsule wardrobe from their current line-up, that’s so nice it’s making me want to dispose of the toothpaste t-shirts…

THE SATURDAY WANDER

Whether you’re discovering a new-found love for garden centres *raises hand* or moulding your boyfriend to be the perfect Instagram husband as he snaps pictures of you looking au natural at a street food pop-up (nice work!), you want to be comfortable. Plus seeing as we’re in that annoying weather phase where it changes from ‘so muggy that you need a shower like, now‘ to ‘temperatures that wouldn’t be out of place in the arctic’ in the space of five minutes, layering is key. So for a Saturday wander I propose the classic Canadian tuxedo of denim on the top and the bottom – Justin and Britney eat your heart out. The MOTO Oversized Denim Shirt does exactly what it says on the tin and I’ve been living in my Bleach Raw Hem Straight Leg Jeans since I got them last month and love the heavy feel of the fabric and the magic lifting abilities they have on the derrière.

THE SATURDAY DINNER

I can’t say that I’m the biggest fan of getting dressed up. More often than not I don my usual shirt and jeans combo, swap my sliders for strappy sandals and call it a day. However I challenged myself to go a little of piste here and ended up with an outfit that’s certainly suitable for an evening out, that I feel 100% myself in and contains a crop top, which is a category that I’ve never been brave enough to venture into before. It’s all going ‘ere! I never thought I’d see the day that I’d wear a crop top out of a changing room, but this Roll Crop T-Shirt in Grey Marl hits the perfect height that enables a tiny tuck into the waistband of these Stripe Crop Wide Trousers. Speaking of which, aren’t these great? I think they might just be my favourite part of this capsule. Throw them on with heels for a dressier look, or flats and the denim shirt from the first look for something a tad more casual.

THE SUNDAY BRUNCH

Get familiar with this outfit formula, because it’s basically all I plan on wearing for the upcoming autumn months. Whenever I go on a Pinterest frenzy I end up with boards and boards filled with woman wearing chunky knits with their hair tucked into the collar, straight leg jeans and flats of some kind. It’s the perfect polished outfit that also keeps you warm and can sort of pass for any occasion. Pair it with some big ‘Don’t look at me’ sunglasses for ultimate chicness. Here I’m wearing the Boxy Rib Roll Neck Jumper, again with the Bleach Raw Hem Straight Leg Jeans and a pair of leopard print slides to add some pattern. This jumper is so darn cosy and is not too thick that it resists a tuck into a waistband, which I personally love as it adds a slightly fitted element to the whole thing. Right, that’s my autumn uniform sorted for Sunday brunch and beyond…
