The New Year Mega Tidy-Up

IMG_9586

I’M HOME! And with the world’s biggest pile of washing and a dusty, musty smelling flat this Sunday’s going to be an interesting one. I’m writing this post more as a reminder to myself of my to-do list for today but I thought I’d pop it up here for you lot to have a gander at as well. With all the dinners, drinks and family gatherings done and dusted it’s time to put the work hat back on tomorrow and in order to hit 2015 running I’m proposing a rather mega tidy-up. I’m just hoping it’s not one of those that you start and then regret about an hour in when you just want to snuggle up and take a nap on the pile of clothes you just put in a charity bag. Snore. A clear-up that scales beauty and beyond. Feather dusters at the ready…

Unpack first. Always. Though it’s my least favourite thing in the world and I will sit with my shoes and coat on for about an hour procrastinating on my phone until Mark physically drags me to do it.

Start with the makeup. Ah the makeup drawers. They’re actually not looking too bad right now considering all the grabbing and going I’ve done in recent weeks but they could do with a bit of a clean (can’t they always?). I’m planning on doing a surface swipe, popping a wipe around the individual drawers and giving my brushes a clean. Ever wondered how I do that? This video explains it all. Like Clarissa.

Wardrobe logistics. Today I will be referring back to the first of my #WardrobeWeek videos and though I won’t be making a pilgrimage to IKEA or playing around with the set-up of my storage I will be making sure that things are looking streamlined in the clothing department and begin to plough though the mountains of washing. I’m seriously considering getting a third clothes airer. WILD.

A kitchen cupboard clear-out. The one non-beauty or fashion related area that can turn from ridiculously organised to a disaster zone with just one ingredient-filled recipe is the kitchen cupboards. I like to have a little riffle through every few weeks to make sure it’s all fresh (I once found a smoked garlic bulb that had been festering for around six months and was causing Mark and I to think there was a dead rodent in the kitchen somewhere – a wake-up call fo’ sure) and if there’s anything we haven’t got round to eating that we can donate to the food bank. Aside from ‘Makeup Collections’ and ‘Cute Kittens’, the most used search term in my YouTube is ‘Kitchen Cupboard Storage’. I know, Grannie Annie strikes again…
