The Beauty Bag: February

Welcome to the month of luuuurve. The month of which for one whole week you’ll be unable to get a dinner reservation for two, you won’t be able to move in your local WHSmith greeting card section and your Instagram feed will be full of red rose bunches. I may be accounted for, but I’m more likely to be found downing slush puppies at the bowling alley with my girlfriends on the big day (more on that at a later date). But how could I resist a clichéd lip-lockin’ themed Beauty Bag? Lipsticks have been flying onto the shelves thick and fast for the past few weeks and I’ve been filtering through them with a big bottle of Bioderma by my side, so here’s the pick of my favourite formulas and finishes that will be making it into my kit this month…

Laura Mercier Créme Smooth Lip Colour in Arabesque is a recent purchase (soon to be waved around in Sunday’s Haul Video) that hits the nail on the head for peachy pink perfection. Perhaps a little too stark when heavy slicked onto the lips, put patted in with a dab of balm gives a fresh look to your pout. For the scent alone – blackberry and liquorice if you were wondering, Clarins Rouge Eclat Lipstick in Juicy Clementine* will be making an appearance in my lip rotation, think a softer, more everyday version of MAC’s Morange, and I’ve already covered the ground of Rimmel Apocalips in Stellar*, so no need to re-rave about that one.

The new Bourjois Rouge Edition Lipsticks are popping up all over the shop at the moment, and after road-testing a few of the shades the mauve-toned nude Rose Tweed* is my top pick – it reminds me of a colour Lily would absolutely rock. For days when I fancy more a of a pop, you can’t get more ‘in yer face‘ than Illamasqua’s Lipstick in Immodest* or Sleek’s True Colour Lipstick in Loved Up; both pinks that lean on opposite sides of the colour spectrum. I have visions of throwing on Immodest with dewy skin, mascara and not much else. To round of my ménage of lip treats, Topshop have been upping their game recently. Whimsical, is in a similar vein to Laura Mercier’s Arabesque but slightly more matte in texture. Have I said before that I love a peachy lip?

So put ’em on, pout and pucker up and to fit them all in I think I may need a new bag. Heads up to those of you who are more inclined to the whole Valentine’s Day thing, keep a close eye as I have just a look (or three) up my sleeve that you may be interested in…
