Oiled Up

Two years ago I made it one of my New Years resolutions to moisturise every night before bed. Life changing? No. But something I’ve stuck to? Surprisingly, yes. I love nothing more in the evenings than soaking in the bath, towelling off, oiling myself up then swaddling myself in pyjamas. In a strange way I feel like I’m packing all my moisture in! In the summer I go for lighter lotions and creams, but in the cooler weather I bring out the oily big guns. Lavish and heavy, some might not be diggin’ their sometimes ‘greased up stripper’ texture but I say bring it on…

I’ve churned my way through many bottles of the stuff in my two year long nightly moisturising stint, but my two current favourites are the Elemis Frangipani Monoi Body Oil* and Palmer’s Skin Therapy Oil*. Different ends of the wonga spectrum but both fundamentally serve the same purpose. The Elemis is a hard oil, thats bottle needs to be run under a hot tap to soften it for application, it smells spa-like and melts into the skin. Definitely the more luxe choice, I save this for extreme primping and preening nights while I ‘ooh’ and ‘ahh’ at its relaxing scents and quite enjoy the whole ritual. More of a daily pick is the Palmer’s Skin Therapy Oil. I’m not sure I need to say anymore apart from that it smells of chocolate orange! Yes you read that right. I apply, then wave my limbs in anyone who’s available face wailing ‘Do I smell like Terry’s?’. Turns out I do and I feel rather moisturised too. A bit of an added bonus is a bath oil. When I use these I find that I don’t need to go as crazy with the body oils after as a bit of residual oil sticks around – the Aromatherapy Associates Mini’s are currently occupying my bathroom cabinet.

Special mentions to oils from the past which I’ve slathered my way through and no longer own – L’Occitane’s Supple Skin Almond Oil, Neom’s Refresh Oil and anything from Caudalie’s Body Oil range. And if you’ve been dreaming of glistening, ripped, perfectly defined abs since my stripper reference then shame on you. I was personally thinking of Magic Mike…
