Giorgio Armani Lip Maestro

I’m on a bold lip roll at the moment and I think I’ve found my latest obsession in the form of the newly released Giorgio Armani Lip Maestros*. Quelle surprise! Formulated to be a long-lasting liquid lipstick with a matte, velvet finish, when these popped through the letterbox I instantly threw them on and indulged in some testing (while barefaced and in my pyjamas – classy), and from the comfort of my own bed I was impressed. So when I swanned out for dinner on Monday these came with me and here’s the low-down…

I have the fiery orange-toned red 401, the sheer 700 (from their Christmas collection) and the brown nude 202. Lets get down to it – 401 – love, but the other two aren’t winners for me. Although the glossy shade 700 does impart a gorgeous glow to the lips, so does a tub of Vaseline and 202 just didn’t sit right with my complexion – waaaaaay to brown for my tastes. But back to my favourite 401, the first thing that struck me was how easy it was to apply – no lip liner needed, the long bendy nib glides onto the lip contours even with my shaky hands and it’s so pigmented I didn’t even need to dip it back into the tube. Wear time was good too. The spiel states the Lip Maestros to last a good eight hours, I need a quick dose again after four, but then I did munch my way through a mini banquet at Gourmet Burger Kitchen (guilty). The only thumbs down for me is the red topped lids, I much prefer the navy one from the winter collection or just a flash of classy black. But that’s just me being fussy. Of course they’re going to draw comparisons to the YSL Glossy Stains (review here), but the Lip Maestros are much more matte than their liquid lippie counterparts and I find the more buttery texture to apply that little bit easier on the lips. You want glossy? Go with YSL. If you’re a matte lover? Giorgio Armani. Simples.

A tube of this liquidly lipstick love will set you back £25, and they’re currently available exclusively at Harrods and Armani Beauty Online, until the 1st December when they are released nationwide. Like I said, skip the neutral hues, and splurge on the bold shades. Just remember if you’re going to hoof down a burger it might be a good idea to have it on standby for a re-application. Red lip lovers, you won’t be disappointed.
