Two New Brushes That Are Really Rather Snazzy

IMG_1043

It’s not often that I add new brushes into the fold, unless Real Techniques have a new launch out or there’s a MAC brush that my inner teen is still lusting for after all these years, so it’s a rare occurrence for two new ones to be welcomed to my stash in quick succession. That’s the thing with brushes though. They really make all the difference when it comes to makeup application. The day I graduated from sponge-tip applicators to brushes with actual fluffy fibres on the end, is the day I managed to concoct something that slightly resembled a smokey eye. Sure, I love just using my fingers from time to time and the BeautyBlender is a fab little tool (though it’s unable to do everything as I noted here), but nothing beats a good brush when it comes to an airbrushed-looking base or a perfectly placed cheek shimmer. Speaking of those here are my two new favourite brushes that help me to perform the aforementioned tasks…

Let’s tackle base first. Now I flit between my fingers for when I want a really natural, sheer finish, the Louise Young LY34 Super Foundation Brush for when I want something quick and medium-ish coverage and the my Bobbi Brown Full Coverage Face Brush for if I’d like some serious coverage. Now Bobbi Brown has just released a Full Coverage Face and Touch-Up Brush; a double-ended bad boy designed to tackle all your base brush needs. WOWZER. On one end is the usual brush that I just love. All soft and with just the right resistance to build a full, but natural-looking, finish. Then on the other end is a brush that I haven’t used before, but one that is a nice size for getting the blending of concealer going or doing some spot-concealing on blemishes and redness. Together they’ve kind of got you covered for foundation and concealer if you fancy a finger-free application. Both ends wash-up well and being a little two-in-one I’ve got to say that cliché blogger phrase that it’s ‘great for travel’. I do have a feeling though that it is limited edition so if you fancy adding this one to your makeup bag then it’s a case of ‘Run Forest, run!‘.

Now when it came to highlighter I didn’t really have a specific brush that I used. More often than not I just ended up using a small powder brush that hadn’t been dipped into bronzer or blush, or sometimes had – living life on the edge people. Then when I spotted the Anastasia Beverly Hills Pro Face Detail Brush on Cult Beauty, I knew it was exactly what I needed. Turns out it’s a great little multi-tasker that does much more than the original highlighting task that I originally purchased it for. Sitting somewhere in-between a huge eye blending brush and a classic blush brush it also doubles up as a great powdering brush for smaller areas and also adding small doses of contour if you like keeping things quite focused and precise shading-wise. Think of it as more of a detailing powder face brush. It’s not the softest of brushes, but this means that it actually picks up some product when it strikes the pan which is always a good thing. Hello highlight!
